The World Climbing Championships offered five days of great climbing, a pure spectacle in which Italy managed to get its satisfaction thanks to Stefano Ghisolfi’s seventh place in the men’s Lead and Leonardo Gontero’s fifth in the men’s Speed. To these prestigious placings are added the 4 medals won by the Paraclimb, the silver by Alessio Cornamusini and the bronzes by Lucia Capovilla, Simone Salvagnin and Matteo Stefani, which enrich the spoils of the blue expedition to France.
In the men’s Lead, the Turin- born Ghisolfi (pictured above by Yanne Golov),born in 1993 and registered with Fiamme Oro Moena, he confirmed his predictions on the eve of entering the final and taking seventh place, following up on the spectacular tests in the World Cup which saw him also earn a silver in the Chamonix stage, also in France. Other important placings also those of Francesco Vettorata, thirteenth, and Alberto Gotta, nineteenth, who stop a breath away from the final, won by the Czech Adam Ondra, who reaches the top after a monstre race and leaves behind the Austrian Jakob Schubert and the French Gautier Supper. Among the women, the Azzurre stop at the qualifiers in a very high level race, won in the end by the amazing Slovenian Janja Garnbret, dominator also in the World Cup, who gets behind the Belgian Anak Verhoeven and her compatriot Mina Markovic.
In Speed, the other Turin Gontero, also born in ’93 but registered with the Army Sports Center, takes fifth place among the men with a super performance, while the Polish Marcin Dzienski wins, followed by the Iranian Reza Alipourshenazandifar and the Russian Aleksandr Shikov. Among the women and the class of 2000 Elisabetta Dalla Brida , winner of the 2015 Youth World Championships in Speed ​​(cat. Under 16), representing the blue hopes in the final, finishing in sixteenth position a race won by the Russian Anna Tsyganova, followed by the French Anouck Jaubert and on the other Soviet Iuliia Kaplina.
The Boulder race gave the expedition led by DS Luca Giupponi two other excellent placings: among the men, Gabriele Moroni from Novara, born in 1987 in the B-Side Torino, enters the top ten finishing with a super tenth place and nearly the final, which it was won by the Japanese Tomoa Narasaki followed by the Czech Adam Ondra and the French Manuel Cornu. Among the women, splendid Andrea Ebner who in the semifinal closes a very high level race fourteenth, going against all odds to the Swiss Petra Klingler who manages to overcome the Japanese athletes Miho Nonaka, silver, and Akiyo Noguchi, bronze.
Finally, great emotions came from Paraclimb, where the blue expedition scores 4 medals. In the Friday races arrive the silver of the Florentine Alessio Cornamusini in the men’s RP-2 and the bronzes of Simone Salvagnin in the men’s B2 and Lucia Capovilla in the women’s AU-2; in the men’s B-1 final on Saturday it was then the turn of Matteo Stefani , who won another extraordinary bronze in front of seven thousand astonished spectators.
