What just passed was a breathtaking weekend for Italy on the snow. In fact, in various disciplines pleasant medals have arrived that have given smiles and good intentions for the future.
Let’s start with what is certainly the most beautiful and important feat of the weekend : women’s victory in the sledding stage of the World Cup . It was Sandra Robatscher from Bolzano , grandson of the great Armin Zoeggler who succeeded after 23 years (good blood doesn’t lie). Class ’95, the blue toboggan runner obtained the best result on the Altenberg slope . In reality, due to the snow, the stage ended after only one heat, led by the Italian. The last female triumph in this discipline dates back to 1996, whenGerda Weissensteiner dominated Koenigssee and St. Moritz .
Sandra Robatscher closed the first heat with 90 thousandths of an advantage over the world champion Natalie Geisenberger and 246 over the Russian Viktoriia Demchenko. The second act did not go on stage due to the heavy snow that made the track impracticable. The director and uncle of the very young Sandra, Armin Zoeggler , was delighted and was satisfied with the victory.
Another of the most important joys came from snowboarding which had as protagonists the Olympic champion, Michela Moioli, and Omar Visintin at the World Championships in Park City . The Azzurri won a beautiful silver medal in the snowboard cross team competition, won by the American hosts Mick Dierdorff and Lindsey Jacobellis.
The satisfaction of the Azzurri on the podium in Park City The joy for Moioli is double because it comes after a recovery phase due to the injury suffered last October and consequent operation on the meniscus of the left knee . Visintin is also happy who, after several attempts, managed to put a well-deserved medal around his neck in this discipline.
Smiles also in the short track, thanks to the champion Martina Valcepina . The blue, after the European silver a few weeks ago, achieved his first career success in the World Cup .
In fact, despite the many medals won,the 26-year-old skater had never achieved a first place in the cup. In Dresden, Germany, her triumph in her favorite race, the 500 meters. Now she hopes to repeat herself in the next stage scheduled in Turin.
The two Azzurri performed well in Garmisch and Kitzbuehel, both with two podiums. And she started the challenge in view of the world championships in Are, Sweden.
She in Cortina she is unable to finish the race. The greeting of Sofia Goggia is very moving, she knows so much about the farewell of the American champion after the many injuries
. Her A medal awaited fifty years.
The Italian athlete Francesca Lollobrigida achieved a great result at the long track European Championships that are being held in Collalbo, on the Renon plateau. The 27-year-old, in fact, got a bronze medal in the Allround ranking, the classic and most important of all.
Since 1970, the year in which it was the women’s European Championships, no Italian had managed to get on the continental podium . Precisely for this reason, it can be confirmed that the Frascati skater has accomplished a real feat.
An unforgettable day for the history of Italian sport. For the bronze, Lollobrigida had to run the four heats (500m, 1500m, 3000m and 5000m) flawlessly . On the first day the blue ran the 500 and the 3000, finishing in third place in both races. Then came the second place on 1500 in 1’57 “99 and the sixth on 5000 in 7’21” 67, enough to keep behind a sacred monster like the DutchmanIreen Wust , finished fourth in the final ranking.
The gold was won by another orange athlete, Antoinette De Jong (162.918), ahead of the Czech Sablikova , silver (164.064), and our Francesca who closed with 164.937 .
Exhausted but happy at the end of the day, Francesca Lollobrigida has partly left behind the Olympic disappointment of PyeongChang 2018.
Smiles also for Martina Valcepina, silver at the European Short Track Championships in Dordrecht, in the Netherlands. The athlete finished second in the 500m race and is currently fourth in the overall standings, waiting for the 1500m.
Congratulations for the successes also came from the president of Coni,Gianni Malago
