Matteo Orfini docet. One of the most critical exponents of the Democratic Party of Renzismo then elected, even with the yes of Matteo Renzi, president of the democratic party. But all young Turks have, some before and some later, married the premier’s line. And the justification was given by Orfini himself after Renzi’s victory in the primaries of the Democratic Party, a competition in which the “Turks” are lined up with Gianni Cuperlo . “Matteo won and we are ready to collaborate with him. Making internal opposition to him would do no good. The secretary can count on us, we will not go to war on him, ”said the leader of the young Turks. And Renzi passed the hot potato of the Roman federation of the party that was commissioned after the events of Mafia Capitale. THE ORIGINSThe current of the so-called young Turks was born in 2010 as a pact between the thirty-forty-year-olds of the party, the new democrat generation, to send home the old guard. That is what Renzi did to perfection with his scrapping that left Florence. The difference is that the Turks imagined a soft revolution, to be achieved little by little, over time. While the cyclone Matteo did it by challenging everyone. COLLABORATION The fact is, however, that both, after the conquest of the secretariat by the former mayor of Florence, understood that instead of fighting each other it was better to collaborate. And so here is Renzi’s masterstroke, that of appointing Orfini to the presidency of the party, reserving him the place occupied by the Rosy Bindi wreck. Another Turk, Andrea Orlando , on the other hand, after retiring from the Letta government, left him minister, moving him from the ministry and putting him to justice. But other young Turks also found convergence or a modus operandi with Renzism. Andrea Manciulli , for example, who took over from Federica Mogherini as president of the Italian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. O Valentina Paris , entered the secretariat as head of local authorities. Or a Turk very close to Massimo D’Alema , as Orfini had been in the past, that is the MEP Roberto Gualtieri. It is even said that when the prime minister has a political problem in Europe, the first one he consults with is Gualtieri himself. THE NEW YOUNG TURKS Another young Turkish conquered by Renzi and Chiara Gribaudo , born in 1981, who is in the work commission at Montecitorio. Then there is Giuditta Pini , another very young deputy, who even participated in a Leopolda table. While in Rome the councilor of the council of Ignazio Marino , Marta Leonori , and Giulia Tempesta stand out . Returning to parliament, among the Turkish deputies conquered by Renzi there are Verducci himself, Laura Coccia and Enzo Amendola, entered the party secretariat as head of foreign affairs. While Silvia Velo became undersecretary for the environment in the current government. In short, one by one the premier won them all, promoting them with government or party posts. WHO IS DEFILED Who, on the other hand, did not really want to know and Stefano Fassina , who has become one of Matteo’s most ferocious opponents within the Democratic Party. Suffice it to recall the last national assembly in which the deputy called on the premier to “stop treating the opposition as a whim”. But Fassina is no longer part of the Turks: due to differences with Orfini, he left the current as early as 2013. THE SITUATION But if someone thinksthat young Turks no longer exist as they have all become Renzians, he is very mistaken. Because, despite having chosen to collaborate with the current leadership, even becoming “an offshoot of Renzism”, in reality they continue to operate as an autonomous group. Who today supports Renzi, but is ready to disengage if and when he deems his propulsive thrust exhausted. Just as they did with Pierluigi Bersani , first supporting him and then unloading him the day after his resignation. THE TALE OF THE DEMOCRAT SOURCE “The currents in the Democratic Party are in sleep: at a superficial glance they all seem to have become Renzian, in reality they continue to move according to current logics. How Dario Franceschini ‘s dem area is still alive and well, the young Turks are also in good health. Today they are all behind Renzi’s banner because at the moment they consider him the only one capable of leading the party and government, but who knows tomorrow… ”, says a democrat source. THE PERSPECTIVE AND THE NON-BELLIGERANCE PACT After all, it is enough to see how the Turks continue to organize meetings and conferences, such as the political training school “Remaking Italy” (coincidentally the same name of the founding manifesto of 2010) which was held in Siena last September. With Renzi there is a pact of non-belligerence, but no one inside the Democratic Party feels like betting on how long it will last.
