Spider-man (2002)
The start of the trilogy starring Tobey Maguire came in the midst of a renaissance in superhero movies thanks to Blade (1998) and especially X-Men (2000). Sam Raimi’s film tells the origins of the wall-crawler and his confrontation with the Green Goblin, who will return in ‘No Way Home’ again played by Willem Dafoe.
Available on Movistar+, YouTube (purchase or rent) and Prime Video (purchase or rent, between 1.99 and 8.99 euros).
Spider-man 2 (2004)
Maguire slipped back into the blue and red tights in 2004 to star in the best movie of the Raimi trilogy. In it Peter Parker must face the difficulties of his double life, his complicated relationship with MJ (Kirsten Dunst) and a new threat, Dr. Octopus (Alfred Molina). Doc Ock is another of the confirmed villains for ‘Spider-man: No way home’.
Available on Movistar+ and Prime Video (purchase or rent, between 1.99 and 8.99 euros). Also for rent or purchase on Youtube and Rakuten.
Spider-man 3 (2007)
The puncture of the third installment of the trilogy directed by Raimi and starring Maguire ended (then, for now) with the adventures of Spider-Man on the big screen. The film, which incorporated characters like Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard) in a role very different from the one in the comics, did not finish hooking fans. The villains didn’t shine either, starting with a wasted Venom (Thoper Grace). The Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), who was also passing by, returns this 2021 to face Holland in ‘No Way Home’.
Available on Movistar+ and Prime Video (purchase or rent, between 1.99 and 8.99 euros).
The Amazing Spider-man (2012)
The Amazing Spider-man (2012)
It took five years for Sony to reset the brand, ignoring everything that happened in the Raimi trilogy. With Marc Webb behind the cameras and Andrew Garfield as Spider-man , the film took on a more youthful spirit and prioritized the love story between Peter Parker and Gwen Staci (Emma Stone). The Lizard (Rhys Ifans) was the villain.
Available on Netflix.
The Amazing Spider-man 2: The Power of Electro (2014)
The Amazing Spider-man 2: The Power of Electro (2014)
The skid of the sequel starring Garfield ended the claim of a new spider trilogy. The script did not know how to give coherence to a story at times crazy and with a gallery of villains as extensive as little used . The Goblin (Dane DeHaan), Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and Electro (Jamie Foxx) are Spider-Man’s rivals in the film, which ends (warning spoilers) with the iconic death of Gwen Stacy in the comics. Electro, with a renewed appearance -thank goodness- will return in ‘No Way home’.
Available on Netflix.
Spider-man: Homecoming (2017)

Spider-man: Far from Home (2019)
Spider-man: Far from Home (2019)
Already established as one of the Avengers, Holland returns to his life after the lapse by participating in a high school trip to Europealong with his inseparable Ned and MJ. Mysterio’s deception and the threat of the Elementals are responsible for spoiling Parker’s vacation, forced to take on new responsibilities after the death of Tony Stark in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. The revelation of Mysterio, which reveals the true identity of Spider-man, will serve as the starting point for ‘No Way Home’.
Available on Prime Video.

To get to ‘No Way Home’ with your homework done, it’s a good idea to also refresh the other appearances of the character on the big screen. Since his debut in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ he has also been part of the fight against Thanos in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’. All of them available on Disney + as part of the UCM.

Spider-man: A new universe (2018)
Before going to the cinema to see ‘Spider-man: No Way Home’ it is also advisable to take a look at the animated version that in 2018 starred Miles Morales and that opened the doors to the spider-verse. Different versions of the wall-crawler must join forces to face a multiversal threat… does that sound familiar

Available on Prime Video and HBO Max.
