The insurance company NorteHispana has exceeded 3,700 pets insured in its death policy throughout Spain . A considerable number that has allowed them to carry out a study on the profile of insured pets within the family environment in Spain. An upward trend that, according to the Spanish Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Entities (Unespa), affected more than 16,000 pets last year. “At NorteHispana Seguros we are aware that pets have become one more member of the household and for this reason, we have included this new coverage in our death insurance”, adds its technical director, Joan Miquel Cervera.
According to the aforementioned analysis,Andalusia is the autonomous community with the highest number of insured pets, representing 26% of the total. Behind, Catalonia is located with 11.4% and the Valencian Community with 11.1%. Likewise, 93.3% of the pets insured by the company in Andalusia are dogs, in line with the trend in Spain as a whole (93.7%), while 6.7% are cats (compared to 6.3% in Spain). With regard to age, the average of the insured pet in said community is 4.6 years (4.4 years in Spain). An average that in the case of dogs is 4.6 years (4.5 in Spain) and in cats it is 4.1 years (3.4 years in the national average).

The most repeated and curious pet names
Pet names have also been a chapter within the study, throwing curious data. The most used name for dogs in Andalusia is Luna . They complete the ranking, in this order, Lola, Coco, Duke and Kira. As for cats, the most common name is Simba, remembered as the protagonist of the Disney movie The Lion King. In the study we also find among the most common: Thor, Linda, Mia, Nala, Noa and Kiara. At the national average level, Luna, Kira, Lola, Thor and Coco form the top 5 of preferred names for dogs and represent 8.5% of the insured dogs. In relation to cats, Luna is also the most used, followed by Simba, Coco, Lucky and Nina. The animals with these names account for 8.9% of the total insured felines.
In addition, the X-ray of the insured pets reveals some tendencies when choosing the name of the animals. They are common, for example, those of famous singers or soccer players, as is the case of Shakira, Beyonce, Melendi, Elvis or Messi. In recent years , those of the protagonists of Game of Thrones have also become fashionable : Tyrion, Arya, Hodor or Khaleesi. Among the fictional characters, the favorites are warriors like Rambo, Leia or Hulk, or cartoon characters like Mickey, Minnie, Goku or Pumbaa.
