Third match and third success for the Italian women’s national team, committed to the 2019 European Championships . After Portugal and Ukraine, today Davide Mazzanti’s girls beat Belgium 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-23) in Lodz . Just over three weeks after the Olympic qualification tournament, Egonu and her teammates beat the Belgian national team with the same score. Thanks to the success, the vice world champions took the first place in Pool B: 3 wins and 9 points in the standings.
Against Belgium the blues played an excellent first set, great attacking percentages and a very careful block. The second fraction suffered more, Italy also found itself in difficulty, but with patience and lucidity it came out very well. In the third, after the first phases in balance, Egonu and her companions ran ahead, Belgium did not give up and gave life to a long attempt to recover. The blues were almost reached, but they held out and defended the advantage until the end.
Among the Italian ranks to report the performance of Paola Egonu, 28 total points with 6 blocks and 4 aces. Good percentages for Myriam Sylla who scored 13 points, ahead of Indre Sorokaite (10 points).

As an initial line-up, coach Mazzanti confirmed: Malinov dribbling, opposite Egonu, spikers Sylla and Sorokaite, central Chirichella and Folie, free De Gennaro.
Excellent departure of the blues, Indre Sorokaite created big problems for the opponents and Italy ran away (6-1). The tricolor wall has blocked Belgium’s way several times, while the blue attack traveled at very high percentages (12-5): Paola Egonu unstoppable (12 points and 82%). The opposing team tried to react with the block (21-17), but in the final Sorokaite and teammates restored the distance (25-18).
In the second fraction the teams arrived in a draw until (7-7), then Belgium found a good series in batting and Italy suffered (9-11).The blue also struggled in attack and so the opponents tried the draw (9-13). Without losing heart, Mazzanti’s girls relied on their wall-defense and the inertia of the set changed quickly (14-14). The tricolor wall has no longer conceded anything to the Belgian strikers and Italy has returned to dictate the pace (20-16), setting the score at (25-21).
In the third set Belgium tried to keep themselves in the game (10-10), but the first change of gear of the tricolor national team proved decisive (14-11). Egonu and her companions gave life to a very long partial (19-12) , then they accused some empty passes and Belgium arrived only one distance away, before having to surrender (25-23).
