The fabric known as Meltblown has gained remarkable popularity in recent days. The cause is found in its components and in its manufacturing method, which make it an important base for the manufacture of medical masks. Its use is even recommended for high-risk environments.
Following the Aimixgroup portal, the manufacturing process to create this type of fabric is known as Meltblown, hence the name of this fabric. It is made with polymers such as polypropylene.
A non-traditional manufacturing method
While traditional fabrics are woven together, as in the case of cotton, Meltblown fabricit does not imply that it is manufactured by joining yarns. Its manufacture involves the mechanical, thermal or chemical union of the material created from the separation of polymer fibers with a melt that resembles a band.
Meltblown nonwoven fabrics are produced by melt blown process .The high security it provides, even in risky environments, is found in the density of its microfiber structure. This acts as a barrier against contaminating agents, offering high filtration together with great air permeability. In addition, the desired spun layers can be combined to provide the fabric with more efficiency.
Meltblown fabric has a fine fiber structurethat acts as a total protective barrier, giving the masks a longer life and offering a high porosity with very small pores. In addition, its use is more than recommended even in the most polluting environments.
The Meltblown process
In the manufacture of Meltblown fabric, the fiber converges with the hot air as soon as it leaves the matrix. In this way, this flow made in the melt-blowing process is used to attenuate and stretch the fibers, so that the resulting fabric has even finer fibers than those of traditional fabrics.
Another important point of the masks made with Meltblown fabric is that they are reusable.Although it is not recommended to use components such as alcohol, boiling water or processes that involve high temperature to sterilize it, as this could destroy the structure of the masks made with Meltblown.
Meltblown cloth masks must be irradiated with ultraviolet light to ensure that it retains its filtering properties and efficiency. Considered the “most effective material in the world” due to its filtering effect, it is the only one suitable for manufacturing the filter layer of FFP2 and FFP3 type masks.
