The Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome in first place. Following, on the podium: the Niguarda of Milan and the Sant’Orsola of Bologna. According to the US magazine Newsweek , these are the best Italian hospitals. The figure emerges from the ” World Best Hospitals 2022 ” report, published every year with the collaboration of “Statista Inc.”, one of the most important market research companies globally. A dossier that confirms that, despite Italy being among the countries most affected by the pandemic, the quality of overall health care remains among the best in the world. Among the 21 countries represented in the top 150 positions, in fact, Italy is present with ten structures. Better only the United States (33) and Germany (14). France ex-aequo.The world ranking
The structures to be considered for the world ranking are selected on the basis of the “nominations” suggested by health experts, considering the results of the surveys conducted on patients and the performance indicators of the health structures (quality of treatments, hygiene measures, and patient safety, ratio of patients per doctor and per nurse). After selecting the hospitals in this way, a board of international experts evaluates them and draws up the world ranking. In the top five positions, again this year, there are three US hospitals: the Mayo Clinic (Rochester), the Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland) and the Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston). And only one European: the university hospital of the Charite in Berlin (5th). Globally, Gemini is ranked in thirty-seventh position. Niguarda and Sant’Orsola, respectively, in 50th and 60th place. The best Italian hospitals Coming to the Italian situation, in the first 28 positions there are only structures present in the Regions in the North and Center. From fourth to tenth place, there are in fact four Lombard hospitals: San Raffaele (4th) and Humanitas (5th) in Milan, San Matteo polyclinic in Pavia (8th) and Pope John XXIII (9th) of Bergamo. Results that confirm that, despite the pandemic having overwhelmed the region, the standard of care in the shadow of the Madonnina remains the reference overall along the Peninsula. The placings obtained by two Venetian hospitals were also satisfactory: the hospital-university company of Padua (6th) and the Borgo Trento hospital in Verona (7th). Tenth place for the Santa Maria Nuova hospital in Reggio Emilia. As for the structures of the South, the highest ranking was obtained by the Casa Sollievo della Soflievo hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo (29th). Following the polyclinic of Bari (35 °) and that of Federico II of Naples (46 °). At the bottom of the national ranking, the Sant’Anna and San Sebastiano di Caserta (110th), the Santissima Annunziata di Savigliano (111th) and the Maggiore hospital of Crema (112th).Top-of-the-line hospitals for specialties
As already done last year, in the dossier relating to 2022 there are rankings for the various specialties. For each of these, the “best” hospitals in 21 countries around the world have been identified: on the basis of the standard of living and life expectancy, the size of the population, the number of facilities and the availability of data. The survey, as every year, was answered by over eighty thousand, including doctors and patients from the states identified. Excellent results achieved by Italy both in the special ranking dedicated to cancer care institutes (3 centers in the first 30 positions: the European Institute of Oncology and the National Cancer Institute of Milan, the Pascale oncology center of Naples) and in that reserved for hospitals specializing in the treatment of neurological diseases (2 out of 7: the Besta of Milan and the Institute of Neurological Sciences of Bologna). The same number of mentions was achieved in the pediatric field (3 Italian hospitals in the first 26 positions: the Gaslini of Genoa, the Meyer of Florence and the Bambin Gesu of Rome) and orthopedic (with the Galeazzi and the Pini of Milan and the Rizzoli of Bologna among the excellences on a world scale).
