The future of our planet’s environment does not depend solely on the decisions of the great of the Earth. Each of us is responsible for our own lifestyle and every single behavior has a certain impact, more or less heavy, on the resources of our ecosystem. Of course, every lifestyle change can be challenging and at times uncomfortable: but every little gesture , added to the others, makes the difference and we must become aware of this.
So why not start immediately, in our small way, to make choices that can make a difference and bring concrete benefits to the environment, and with it to our descendants and to the animals that populate the Earth and are at risk of extinction.
Here are some simple rules that we can immediately begin to follow: Let ‘s start separate collection
80% of waste is recyclable : we create a space in a corner of the kitchen with four containers , all of different colors: one for the paper, one for the plastic, one for glass and one for organic waste. A fifth container will have to collect the so-called special and hazardous waste : batteries and expired drugs (which we will periodically throw away at the collection points of pharmacies and supermarkets). And then disposable cameras, cell phones, discarded IT objects and paints. The latter are withdrawn by the municipal garbage collection companies. R.we iduce waste
Let’s go shopping with a paper or canvas bag , which we will reuse every time: the environment will thank us. We buy unpackaged fruit and vegetables: the wallet and the environment will be positively affected. And let’s eliminate the superfluous
Let’s have an examination of conscience: what we are about to buy is absolutely indispensable
The umpteenth plastic game for our child that gets tired of after a few days or even hours, the useless technological gadget that we will soon not know how to get rid of : and if we did without it
Here’s a good way to start reducing unnecessary consumption. We beat consumption
We eliminate heat loss by renewing the fixtures , we replace old appliances with new ones with energy class A +, we gradually change burnt out incandescent bulbs (which are no longer even on the market) with fluorescent or LED ones (in the latter case, we will be in place for the next 50 thousand hours), we are careful not to waste water, an increasingly precious resource. We do not leave the appliances on stand-by and turn off the light when possible. Let’s ask ourselves then: in the height of summer, at home or in the office, you really need a temperature so low that you have to cover yourself with a shirt, or in winter you have to stay in a shirt with 25 degrees of temperature Let’s
moderate the air conditioningand let’s turn down the heating : health will also gain. We give up the car
The car is an expensive, polluting and often stressful means of transport. We use public transport, bicycles as much as possible and do some more routes on foot. If it is really necessary to use the car, for example to go to work or take the children to school, let’s agree with some colleague or the parents of the companions to use it in turns and fill it ( car pooling ). In the USA and other countries, for example, there are preferential lanes for cars carrying more than one person. Or, we join car sharing: some of us will realize that they will be able to eliminate the weight of the car from the family budget, as well as from that of the environment.
