Many of the shots of the third series of L’Amica Geniale were shot in the studios set up in Caserta in the former industrial area Saint Gobain of Marcianise where, since the first series, the Luzzatti district of Gianturco has been rebuilt. The set was then adapted for the various series passing from the 50s to the 70s but retaining the six buildings and the church wanted by Ferrante. The external scenes of this third series were shot in Naples with various sets between Piazza del Gesu and Piazza Dante, then on the seafront and in many other places in the city. Other external shots were shot in Torre Annunziata, in the old Real Fabbrica d ‘Armi Bourbonica, also known as Spolettificio and in the streets near the military establishment.
Some symbolic places of Florence were also chosen as the set, such as Piazza della Signoria, Piazza Santa Croce and Piazza Santissima Annunziata, along with other private locations. This first part of the shoot will be followed by a second one, in September, which will again involve Florence and then Versilia. The presence of the set in Florence will not only generate an increase in film tourism, but will bring a positive economic impact for the city. This is thanks to the professionalism employed, the extras hired, the service companies and the accommodation facilities involved. The literary phenomenon
The Brilliant Friend is undoubtedly one of the most successful operations among those carried out by Rai in recent years. Strengthened by the collaboration with HBO, the series made use of the enormous international resonance of Elena Ferrante’s novels and gave to the phenomenon of fiction that narrated Naples from the 1950s onwards. Abroad, tetralogy has been sold and appreciated under the title of “My Brilliant Friend”, representing one of the most impactful literary phenomena of recent years.
