Mondiali.it supports Iceland in Russia 2018: discover the stories and live events

Emil Hallfredsson, a professional midfielder, was born in Hafnarfjordur on 29 June 1984. His career as a footballer saw his first steps in the local club FH, with whom he made his 18-year-old debut. From there, the usual experience abroad, a must for Icelandic players. It was Tottenham who took over in 2005, even if the English did not manage to make him debut in the first team. The name of the midfielder is however certainly linked to his long Italian militancy, from 2007 onwards: Reggina, Hellas Verona and Udinese his teams in the Belpaese, never abandoned again except for a brief interlude in Barnsley. He has totaled 64 appearances with the national team, with a goal to his credit.
Player of a certain flexibility, and able to fill the roles of playmaker, left midfielder and left winger in midfield. In Italy we have seen him more than anything else acting in a three-way median, but in the national team he was used in the past mainly as a winger. Over the years he has definitively occupied the position of central midfielder, combining dynamism and a good basic technique. He is also in possession of a great shot from distance: Juventus knows something about it. [/ Vc_column_text] [/ vc_column] [/ vc_row]

THE CAREER OF EMIL HALLFREDSSON IN NATIONAL TEAM
Attendance: 64
Goals: 1
Debut: on March 30, 2005 in a friendly match against Italy coached by Marcello Lippi, in Padua. Ends 0-0.
The only goal scored by the midfielder with the national team dates back to more than ten years ago: Hallfredsson scored the goal of the head advantage (on an assist from Joey Gudjonsson) in the 1-1 home game against Spain (Iberian draw by Iniesta in the final). The match was valid for the qualifiers for the 2008 European Championships, and Spain went into great difficulty as they were outnumbered by the 20 ‘of the first half, due to the expulsion of Xabi Alonso.

CURIOSITY
At the end of the 2010/2011 season, he was awarded the “Mastino del Bentegodi” award with the Hellas Verona shirt, the team with which he spent the best years of his career. Perhaps not everyone knows that he has a younger brother, Hakon Atli Hallfredsson, born in 1990, whose career has mainly developed with the FH shirt without leaving any particular traces of himself. Italy is certainly in Emil’s destiny, as we said: one of the few Icelanders to have adapted perfectly to Italian football, he also made his first appearance in the national team against the Azzurri.
Like many of his teammates, for Hallfredsson this is the second international competition with the Icelandic national team: he too was present in the expedition to Euro2016 in France.
