Skin healing is a very complex physiological process that requires the combination of several factors in order to obtain very good results. To reduce scar blemishes and improve the function of new skin, many medications are currently available. However, the majority of these show side effects such as rashes, due to the presence of surfactants, preservatives or unnatural substances in their formulation.

The skin: characteristics and functions
The skin or skin and the outer covering tissue of vertebrates. In mammals, especially in humans, it is the largest organ of the integumentary system.
It is composed of three layers of tissues which, from the outside to the inside, are: epidermis, dermis, and under the skin .

The skin has many functions:

  1. it is a very effective barrier that protects internal tissues from mechanical and chemical damage, heating and cooling, UVA irradiation, and pathogenic microorganisms;
  2. and crucial in maintaining the osmotic balance of body fluids and thermoregulation ;
  3. it has tactile and pressure receptors, thermoreceptors and nociceptors, a real sense organ .

Wounds and skin healing
When the skin undergoes a trauma, a complex physiological process of healing begins, aimed at closing the wound. Scarring is influenced by the patient’s age , nutritional conditions, availability of vitamin C , obesity and endocrine factors .

The skin healing process consists of 3 phases:

  1. inflammatory phase (0 – 3 days). Bacterial infections are neutralized by the activation of the immune response.
  2. proliferative phase (4th – 21st day). Cell proliferation begins; the tissue that is formed in this phase begins to fill the wound from its deepest part.
  3. ripening stage (22nd day – to the end). It is the longest step.

Epithelial cells begin to divide and migrate from the edges to the wound surface. When the epithelial layer renews itself, the crust falls off and new epithelial tissue appears.

Our study: Aloedermal and its properties
The correct skin regeneration and healing process after the occurrence of damage is very important both on a functional and aesthetic level.
This study was designed to try to improve the aesthetic and functional quality of scars . For this purpose, six patients who had previously undergone bilateral upper blepharoplasty surgery and various creams selected from those available at the moment were used .
There are many products currently available, but only some of them contain natural substances . On the contrary, they are often contained emollients, surfactants and preservatives that can cause skin irritation.
Two creams were used simultaneously to treat each patient: ALOEdermal® was used on one eyelid, while creams made by other companies were used on the contralateral eyelid.

None of the patients showed allergies or topical reactions to the facial creams of the ALOEdermal® line (Fig. 1). Unfortunately, there have been some cases of redness on the eyelids treated with other creams.
Our results show thatthe facial creams belonging to the ALOEdermal® dermocosmetic line really favor the correct wound healing process. Scars treated with these creams quickly improved their aesthetic appearance as well .
Also, unlike other creams that caused some reactions, none of the patients treated with ALOEdermal® showed any allergy or topical reactions.
In conclusion, the facial creams belonging to the ALOEdermal® dermocosmetic linethey are a huge step forward in improving, after being damaged, the aesthetic quality of scar tissue formation and its functionality. Furthermore, if the lesion has occurred on visible parts such as the face, it can contribute to solving the problem of unsightly scars, thus improving the patient’s quality of life from a psychological point of view .
