He started playing with an oval ball at the age of six when he was a child and today, with over 120 appearances for the national team , he has no plans to stop. This is Sergio Parisse , a 33-year-old Italian rugby player born in Argentina in La Plata of Abruzzese parents residing in South America for work. His father, Sergio senior , had already been a rugby player in L’Aquila. Returning to Italy in adolescence, he fully immersed himself in rugby and then never broke away to become a flag and historic captain of Italrugby .
Undisputed leader of the Italian national team, as well as of the club in which the Stade Francais Paris plays , the captain covers the role ofthird center line as the most classic of the numbers 8.
Parisse has been in the French capital for twelve years and has had the opportunity to win two championships, one in the 2005/06 season and the other in 2014/15, also receiving the recognition of the best player of the tournament .
Historical was the news a few weeks ago of a turnaround that concerned the French company. For a long time there has been talk of a merger between the Stade Francais club and the other Parisian and rival team, Racing 92 . The news had given rise to grumbling especially among the fans, in fact the rivalry between the two teams is very strong, comparable to the Italian derbies Rome – Lazio and Milan – Inter.
A real revolution that for days made the climate tense in Paris and in the two teams that together have almost 90 players . In fact, the corporate project provided for a 50% cut of the players belonging to the two squads. This cut, however, would not have directly involved Sergio Parisse, just as it would not have affected Dan Carter , the New Zealand rugby player of Racing 92 as well as the highest paid in the world. Many teammates of the Italian captain would have paid the price.
Precisely for this reason the entire Stade Francais squad, led by Parisse, had thought of proclaiming a real strike , interrupting training and even threatening not to take the field for the championship match.
However, through an official statement, the president of Racing 92, Jacky Lorenzetti, made it official that the merger was no longer done , to the delight of the many supporters and players.
Beyond the purely sporting aspects, after many seasons in Paris, Sergio Parisse is almost French by adoption even if his heart beats only for Italy. In recent years, the captain himself has been the symbol of an Italrugby that has changed its look and that has appeared on international stages with a great desire to get noticed.
The leader of the national team lives with his family in the transalpine capital, his free time is dedicated to his family and relaxation. She likes to accompany her daughter to school or the park, but she also loves sleeping, especially in the evenings after a tough match.
Before bed rest, however, Sergio Parisse, at the end of the race in the locker room, tries to relieve fatigue by enjoying a good beer with his teammates complete with selfies . Of course, beer is best enjoyed after a victory.

At almost 34, he is still a point of reference for his club and the national team. Sacrifice, patience and perseverance have made him one of the strongest players in the history of Italrugby. His dream is to win something with the blue shirt, trying to do better in the next World Cup in Japan in 2019 .
The situation with the club is more feasible than him, even if this season the Stade Francais is not shining. Parisse hopes that next year he will be able to win the championship again perhaps with his “drop” , a stroke of rare beauty but that the captain has already been able to achieve a long time ago.
