The Spanish car brand Seat will begin in July the first deliveries in the Spanish market of the fourth generation of its Leon model, the “safest Seat in history”, after making an investment of 1,100 million euros in its design and development, which It has been carried out in the Technical Center that the firm has in Martorell (Barcelona).
The new Leon, which is already in dealerships, hits the market as the fourth in a saga of models that was launched in 1999 and has accumulated sales of more than 2.2 million units. Only from the last generation of this car, more than 1.05 million units have been sold in all the markets in which the firm operates.
This vehicle, which adopts SEAT’s new design philosophy introduced with the Tarraco, uses the Volkswagen group’s MQB Evo platform, which allows it to incorporate the latest technology, a wide range of safety assistants and efficient and electrified engines.
The five-door version of the new generation of the Leon has increased its exterior length by 8.6 centimeters, up to 4.36 metres, which allows for greater interior space, while the Sportstourer body measures 4.64 metres, 9 .3 centimeters more than its predecessor.
This increase in exterior length, in addition to improving the interior space for the occupants, has also led to an increase in the load capacity of the trunk in the family variant, up to 620 liters (30 liters more), while the five-door maintains the 380 liters of the previous one.

Five propulsion technologies

Among the main novelties of the new Leon, which represents a “fundamental pillar” for the brand, highlights that it will be offered with five different propulsion technologies (petrol, diesel, ‘mild hybrid’, plug-in hybrid and gas).
Initially, the mechanical offer of the model will be made up of 110, 130 and 150 horsepower gasoline engines, as well as 115 and 150 horsepower diesel and a 150 horsepower eTSI microhybrid. The offer will be completed, progressively, with a mechanical access to the 90-horsepower gasoline range and another 190-horsepower TSI, in addition to a 115-horsepower eTSI.
After the summer, the Leon will receive, for the first time in its history, a plug-in hybrid propulsion system in combination with a 1.4-liter TSI engine with which it achieves a combined power of 204 horsepower. At the end of the year, the range will also incorporate a 130-horsepower TGI (compressed natural gas) engine.

The safest
The fourth generation of the Leon becomes, due to its high content in security systems, the safest Seat in history, since it can mount elements such as the traffic jam assistant, predictive cruise control, dynamic chassis control, lane departure warning, blind spot control, emergency assistant, travel assistant or door opening warning system, among others.
The vehicle has also reinforced its general equipment, with outstanding elements such as the three-zone climate control, the hands-free electric tailgate opening for the Sportstourer or the ten-inch touch screen for the multimedia system that has, for the first time, a card. Embedded SIM.
At the beginning of its commercialization, the version of access to the range is with the Style finish and the 110 horsepower gasoline engine, which has a price with bells and financing that stands at 20,270 euros (24,110 euros without bells).
