2 – Chiesa di San Marco
Photo of Alba.Sinceri. Chosen by Mozart for his first Italian concert, it dates back to the second half of the 15th century and was built in honor of the patron saint of Venice. Externally it is presented in a very simple neoclassical style but the interior is typically Baroque splendor , with the ceiling and entirely frescoed and valuable works such as the Altarpiece of San Marco, the statue of Santa Rosa di Lima and the altars of Mary Help of Christians, of San Vigilio, dell’Altissimo and San Girolamo. The pipe organ from 1509 is also beautiful. During the First World War it suffered serious damage and was repaired in 1919 with the contribution of the Italian government.

3 – Casa Depero

This museum was wanted and found by the great futurist Fortunato Depero , pioneer of contemporary design, who personally takes care of the layout, the interiors, the mosaics, the furniture, the painted panels. In 2009, on the occasion of the centenary of Futurism, the Mart absorbed the structure, restoring it and recovering the original areas designed by the artist. Inside you can admire about 3,000 works and objects that are exhibited in rotation .

4 – Bell of the Fallen Maria Dolens
Photo of Gio 2000. The history of this bell begins in 1924 when it was cast for the first time with the bronze of the cannons of the First World War and placed on a tower of the castle. Over time it underwent another three castings due to the imperfect sound and structural cracks until, in 1966, I found the current shape and a definitive location on the Miravalle hill . It is the largest bell in the world that rings out in the open, 3.36 meters high, 3.21 meters in diameter and weighing 226.39 quintals and every evening it strikes its toll in memory of the fallen.

5 – Castello di Rovereto

In 1509, following the Venetian defeat, it passed into the hands of the Habsburgs, who controlled it until the end of the Great War. The castle was restored in the 1920s and is still undergoing restoration projects. Its towers house an important collection of period weapons and the Italian War History Museum , which has a rich collection of period objects, weapons and photographic material.

6 – Palazzo Annona

Designed and built in 1700 to contain the wheat that arrived in the city, it was never used for this purpose as the city administrators, at the end of the construction work, realized its beauty and changed its final use. It has housed a school, a museum and a bank while it is now the prestigious seat of the Civic Library and part of the Mart museum complex. It contains about 500,000 volumes and manuscripts and is freely accessible.

7 – Eremo di San Colombano

Built halfway up on an overhang of about 120 meters , and dedicated to the saint who killed the dragon that caused the death of baptized children in the waters of the Leno stream below. Inhabited since 753, the church was built between the end of the 10th century and the beginning of the 11th century and used by monks until 1782. Inside there are frescoes with the fight between St. Colombano and a dragon, a “Madonna and saints” by 15th century and various stone engravings.

8 – Civic Museum

One of the oldest Italian museums , founded in 1851 and grown over time with the aim of disseminating, conserving and enhancing all the material and knowledge stored in these 150 years. The main office is in Palazzo Parolari, where there are permanent collections, a library, the teaching room, the Lego Education Center for robotics activities and the planetarium. Other popular locations are in Palazzo Alberti Poja, Monte Zugna, Villa d’Isera and at the archaeological site Loppio-Sant’Andrea.

9 – Path of the Dinosaurs
Not far from the center of Rovereto, on the slopes of Monte Zugna, is the largest deposit of fossil footprints found in Italy . The footprints left by dinosaurs about 200 million years ago are of different shapes and sizes, they are imprinted in the rock and date back to the time when the Adige Valley was a muddy plain at the edge of the sea. The footprints are divided into two main groups, carnivores and ebivores and a good number of footprints left by herbivorous dinosaurs and in excellent condition, easy to recognize one after another the steps of the animals. 10 – Arco Castle Arco is
a small village a few kilometers from Rovereto, famous for the suggestive castle built in the 12th century overhanging a steep rock . One day itinerary in Rovereto
Photo by Alba.Sinceri. The itinerary proposed and developed for an urban route that is very easy to do on foot and without haste. Designed for those arriving in the city by train or car and who decide to leave it in one of the car parks near the station.

Morning – On the road that connects the railway station to the first stop of the recommended itinerary, we find the Pasticceria Zaffiro where you can have a good and abundant breakfast to start the day well. A few tens of meters further on is the Palazzo Parolari, which houses the Civic Museum where you can visit the planetarium in the garden and the robotics section. Further on are the Palazzo Annonawith its impressive collection of books and manuscripts and the Mart which will take up most of the morning for a thorough visit. Afternoon – After lunch, continue towards the Church of San Marco to admire the sumptuous Baroque interior, the frescoes and the precious pipe organ. Still heading south to get to Casa Depero , the house-museum of the great futurist from Rovereto and then continue the walk to the Castle .
