To all the young people and among them there are also my three children.
For twenty years I was a footballer. This certainly does not make me a teacher of life but now I would like to take care of young people, so precious and irreplaceable. I know that young people don’t like advice, I was like that too. But, without arrogance, I would like to give some advice tonight. I would like to invite young people to reflect on these words.
The first is passion.
There is no life without passion and this you can only look for within yourself. Don’t listen to those who want to influence you. Passion can also be passed on. Look inside and you will find it there.
The second is joy.
What makes a successful life and rejoice in what you do. I remember the joy in my father’s tired face and my mother’s smile in putting all ten of us around a set table in the evening. It is precisely from the joy that that feeling of completeness of those who are fully living their life is born.
The third is courage.
It is essential to be courageous and to learn to live by believing in yourself. Having problems or making mistakes is just natural, you need not be defeated. The most important thing is to feel satisfied knowing that you have given everything, that you have done your best, in your own way and according to your abilities. Look to the future and move forward.
The fourth is success.
If you follow joy and passion, then we can also speak of success, of this word that seems to have remained the only value in our society. But what it means to be successful
For me it means to realize in life what you are, in the best way. And this applies to both the footballer, the carpenter, the farmer or the baker.
The fifth and sacrifice.
I suffered knee injuries as a young man that caused me problems and pains throughout my career. I managed to live with and live with those pains thanks to the sacrifice which, I assure you, is not a bad word. Sacrifice is the essence of life, the door to understand its meaning. Youth and time of construction, for this you have to train well now. Your future will depend on this. This is why the years you are living are so important. Don’t believe what comes without sacrifice. Don’t trust it, it’s an illusion. Effort and hard work build a bridge between dreams and reality.
All my life I made sure to remain the boy I was, who loved football and went to bed clutching a football to his chest. Today I only have a few more white hairs and a lot of old scars. But my dreams are always the same. Those who make continuous efforts are always filled with hope. Embrace your dreams and chase them. Everyday heroes are the ones who always give their best in life.
