Candida is one of the most widespread problems in Italy and, unfortunately, does not make any distinction between sex and age even if – in general – it seems that the female population is affected to a greater extent. There are many theories regarding the possible triggering causes but there is one that everyone agrees: candidiasis occurs in subjects suffering from intestinal dysbiosis. So, if on the one hand it is essential to take care of the diet and take care of our intestinal microbiota, on the other hand there are natural remedies that are considered really effective. We are talking about the Pseudowintera. Plant that is often associated with remedies of more common use – but not always effective – such as the essential oil of tea tree and grapefruit seeds. Pseudowintera, the natural remedy for candidiasis
Its name is Pseudowintera but many know it with the term Horopinto. The plant originated in New Zealand and, judging by some fossils found, has existed for at least 65 million years. It is important to underline that there are over one hundred varieties but only the one called “colored” has excellent antifungal virtues also active against Candida. The ancient uses of the Pseudowintera
The ancient traditional uses included the use of the plant to drive away evil spirits, while the leaves were said to be the clothing for the souls of the dead. Already old texts written in 1800 indicated Horopoito as a remedy for skin and venereal diseases. In particular, its use against ringworm, bruises, cuts and wounds is described. The Maori people call Candida Albicans Haha, Haka and believe that one of the main causes is an “insufficient” diet. For this purpose, they used the leaves in water to prepare a decoction also useful for the thrush of the mouth. Pseudowintera, research and confirmation from the scientific world
The most important active principle of Pseudowinteraand polygodial: a component also present in Acmella – the famous anti-wrinkle plant – and other herbs used as spices such as mountain pepper, also a typical Australian plant. It is this chemical constituent that has the main fungicidal activity. The molecule was first isolated in 1982 by a group of scientists from Canterbury University (New Zelanada). According to the research team, the plant is very effective in reducing Candida Albicans. Zones of inhibition tested on candida cultures show that it has a comparable effect to amphotericin B, a traditional drug used against such pathogens. Pseudowintera, active against fungi, yeasts, candida
Thanks to the number of tests worked, it was possible to ascertain that Horopoito and attivp both in different types of candida (Candida albicans, Candida krusei, Candida utilis) and some yeasts such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, pennicillins and filamentous fungi (mentagraphytes Trichophyton, Trichophyton ruburum and Pencillium Marneffe). The antifungal activity is significantly increased in case of acidic pH. Not surprisingly, the areas where it normally occurs such as skin, vagina and mouth should have a slightly acidic pH to prevent it from forming. Pseudowintera, the best remedy for Candida
Studies conducted by the Cawthron Institute in Nelson (New Zealand) have shown that Horpoito is decidedly more effective than other natural remedies against Candida. Among these, sodium caprylate, grape seed extract and pau d’arco were compared.
