For older people from Poligono San Pablo , it is not easy to go for a walk through the streets of their neighborhood. Mobility barriers become insurmountable walls, but they also have to defy the garbage that accumulates in some areas on a daily basis, becoming insurmountable obstacles.
This is the case of Antonia and Mercedes, two neighbors with mobility problems who cannot move normally around a neighborhood where they have lived for more than 30 years: “The infrastructure needs to improve, some ramps have been built in the neighborhood, but it is still there are inaccessible areas”.
The main problem faced by the residents of the cross streets of neighborhood CIt is the poor condition of the passages or tunnels that connect the buildings, since there are architectural barriers that prevent residents with reduced mobility from accessing these spaces. There are also accessibility failures in the parking areas, since the steps do not allow the transit of chairs or cars.
Such is the concern that the Municipal Board of the San Pablo-Santa Justa District itself , with the socialist Reyes Gallardo at the helm, turned to the City Council a few days ago to ask their colleagues for greater involvement in the neighborhood. Speaking to this newspaper, Gallardo assured “that the City Council is already working to solve this problem.” At the moment, however, it is more an intention than a reality.
In addition to mobility, there is also the problem of cleaning. And this, despite the commitment also expressed by the government team of Juan Espadas to reinforce the work of the municipal company Lipasam . For the neighbors, the key eradicates in the lack of street sweepers and in the conflicts that the cleaning machines have to access some internal areas. “We believe that there are few workers and they don’t have time,” says Laura Prieto , president of the Amanecer neighborhood association.
From the Association they have been demanding for some time that cleaning measures be increased in specific areas, such as the squares of the buildings, where the corners and flower beds concentrate the remains of garbage. “We have complained several times to Lipasam and the district, but the neighborhood continues to be dirty,” explains the president.
Antonia criticizes that “Lipasam invests more time in cleaning the outer streets of the neighborhood than in the interior ones, which is where it is really needed”. She also clarifies that some dirt problems are caused by the neighbors themselves, who take their pets for a walk and do not pick up the remains of feces from the ground, which could be avoided since the district itself offers free garbage bags for residents. neighbors.
For this reason, the president of the association calls on the residents to get involved with the area in which they live: ” People have to be made aware, they have to understand that the neighborhood must be kept clean, if they throw the waste into the bins, there will be less dirt. Even so, Prieto does not miss the opportunity to also seek municipal complicity: “The problem of dog excrement could be solved if areas were created to take the dogs to relieve themselves, the bad smell and dirt of the sidewalks”. Proposals and complementary solutions, from the neighborhood and from the City Council, with a shared goal: to improve your neighborhood.
