What Pierluigi Battista wrote today (not on the front page of Corriere della Sera, on Covid and the government.
There is a journalism signature that has rarely deserved the front page of the newspaper for some time. Evidently his opinions are not much appreciated by the management of the newspaper in question, namely Corriere della Sera (RCS group) directed by Luciano Fontana.
On the other hand, the signature has for some time been characterized by a non-flattened reading of the politically correct that journalists like so much.
The signature of Pierluigi Battista, journalist , an essayist and long-time political columnist, can be seen in his column drowned in letters and other amenities.
Yet today’s text, close to the new measures in the pipeline by the government to limit infections from Sars-Cov-2 and the debated data (often unparalleled and with few references to resuscitation and intensive care, is based on strict topicality and poses questions not at all trivial: but on the front page we prefer sulphurous editorials on the primaries of the Democratic Party or cursives with the flavor of junk. Here is an excerpt of what Battista wrote today and after all some of his recent tweets:
In the war against the virus to us citizens it is up to the observance of the rules that are indicated to us every day: wear a mask, keep a safe distance, wash your hands often or clean them with sanitizing gel.
But to those who have the reins of politics and ask for the management of an emergency, appealing to the civil sensitivity of citizens is not enough: they cannot absolve themselves and hope only in the discipline of all of us. There are not enough tampons and to get them you need to undergo apocalyptic queues: fate has nothing to do with it, they had at least three months to think about it and provide for it, and they didn’t.
Buses, subways, regional and commuter trains are full of people not spaced apart, forced to risk contagion to go to work or school, it was necessary to have a plan to strengthen and increase public transport: they had at least three months to think about it and provide, but they did not.
There are no facilities for those who have to stay in isolation but do not live in a spacious house where they do not infect families and cohabitants: they had at least three months to think about it and provide for it, but they didn’t.
Rapid tests are in short supply: they had at least three months to think about it and provide, but they didn’t.
The doses of the highly recommended flu vaccine are missing so as not to stress the health system: they had three months to think about it and provide, but they did not.
More doctors and nurses are needed, but the calls are only starting now: they had three months to think about it and provide for it, but they didn’t.
Masks always, necessary spacing and washing your hands often, very often: let’s do it, it’s urgent and necessary. We’ve had months to think about it and provide, we’ve done it. All the rest, no. And they even allow themselves to fantasize about our “Italian model”. Think about it, and take action.
