Numbers, comparisons, comments and debate on the latest data relating to the circulation of newspapers
“The Italian newspapers are about to end 2019 without any particular shocks that revitalize their total paper + digital circulation. Indeed, in November there are only two and not three (as often happened) titles with a positive sign in front: they confirm the growth of Verita (+ 15%, touching 27 thousand copies) and Libero (+ 4.2%), according to the data Ads on the month of this year compared to November 2018 ″.
This is what the daily Italia Oggi, directed by Pierluigi Magnaschi, underlines today in the traditional monthly article that takes stock of the circulation of Italian newspapers.

In general, the climate in the publishing segment does not improve but does not worsen; remains stable with a sort of polarization of the newspapers divided between those (slightly less than half) that lose double-digit copies and those that contain single-digit copies (over half of a total of 19 selected newspapers), summarizes the newspaper of the Class group: “Cosi Quotidiano Nazionale Qn-Giorno drops by 24%, Sole 24 Ore by 12.9%, Fatto Quotidiano by 11.2%, Printing by 10.7%, Newspaper by 10.3%, Repubblica del 7 , 8%, National Daily Qn-Resto del Carlino by 7.5%, National Daily Qn-Nazione by 6%, Messaggero by 4.4% and Corriere della Sera by 1.9%. Between the two trends is Avvenire, stable at -0.3%. In the sports field, on the other hand, Tuttosport was at -11.9% and at -17.8% with the Monday edition, Corriere Sport-Stadio at -9.7% and at -8, 4% on Monday, the Gazzetta dello Sport at -2.9% and -6.2% on Monday ”. A debate was born on social media among professionals in the wake of a post by Andrea Montanari, journalist of Mf / Milano Finanza, expert in finance and publishing among other things. Here is the post with which he took stock of the latest data (post published on his Facebook profile):
“1) Il Sole 24 Ore last November saw sales on newsstands drop to 38,308 compared to 43,349 in November 2018 , -11.63%. While month over month, compared to October they decreased by 2.2%. Given that the Confindustria newspaper has many digital subscribers and many digital copies, here is the year-over-year comparison: last November the total circulation (print + digital) was 146,340 copies vs 168,083 in November 2018, -12.93% but it was an increase compared to the figure of October 2019 (143,464, + 2%).
2) At the end of November 2019 Maurizio Belpietro’s La Verita recorded 24,201 copies sold on newsstands. A figure down (-5.5%) compared to the figure of October 2019 (25,625 copies) but up (+ 11.2%) compared to the figure of November 2018 (21,763).
3) at the end of November 2019 Il Fatto Quotidiano recorded 23,665 copies sold on newsstands. A figure down (-4.29%) compared to that of October 2019 (24,726 copies) and even more (-20.5%) compared to November 2019 (29,777)
4) At the end of November 2019 Libero of the political director Vittorio Feltri (the one in charge and Pietro Senaldi) recorded 24,971 copies sold at newsstands. A figure down (-0.94%) compared to that of October 2019 (25,209) but up (+ 4.29%) compared to 23,946 copies in November 2018.
So it is correct to say that year on year – the economic-financial comparisons are made – the Belpietro newspaper is growing.
And in November it surpassed, for the first time, in its (short) history the newspaper directed by Travaglio. Even if it must be said that they are not comparable in terms of catchment area.
It is equally true that Il Fatto Quotidiano recovers 39,858 copies with total circulation: a value that is down compared to the November 2018 figure, 44,879.
While for La Verita the total figure is slightly higher (26,794 copies), demonstrating that the readership is more traditional. Same thing goes for Libero, who travels to 28,274 copies circulated in total “.
