A little less than a month after the start of the world competition in Russia, Peru has to deal with a bitter disappointment. The joy of finding himself qualified after 35 years is in fact overshadowed by the story of Paolo Guerrero , captain of the national team, who is forced to give up his dream of leading the team.
Involved in a doping affair six months ago, his participation in the World Cup had been in doubt for some time.
It all goes back to the match played against Argentina for the World Cup qualifiers. On that occasion, the Peruvian captain tested positive for a metabolite of cocaine from doping controls. Immediate disqualification for 12 months, then reduced to six following the appeal presented by the player to the Tas.
A harsh sentence but recently expired, dispelling any doubts about the player’s presence in the world championship competition in Russia.
But when it seemed all over, instead, the appeal presented by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) arrives, asking to extend this disqualification up to 14 months, precluding Guerrero from taking part in the World Cup.
Tas seems to have accepted the appeal and Guerrero has been officially eliminated from the squad list of the Peruvian national team of which he was already an integral part. [/ Vc_column_text] [/ vc_column] [/ vc_row]

A shattered dream and a country in revolt: this is what triggered the sentence of Tas. Neither the protagonist nor his fans are there and we continue to proclaim the captain’s innocence. According to his version, in fact, he did not use drugs but simply drank a coca tea, popular in his country and even for sale in the markets.

Through social media, the outburst of a disappointed player who has long awaited the realization of his dream of playing in the World Cup (of which Peru has not been part of since 1982!) Is consumed and instead will be forced to see and cheer his team from home:
The first thing I want to say is that there is no proof of this, nothing has ever been proven. What I don’t understand is how a 14-month penalty can be given, breaking my dream of playing the World Cup without justification . I hope that the judges and the people who helped steal my dream and my World Cup continue to sleep in peace. I thank all the people who have been close to me, who know the professional I am and the person I am: I hope they continue to believe in me
Harsh words that express a strong regret, but that do not prevent him from being close to his teammates, supporting them and, ironically, appearing again in the group photos of the world team.

He, who with his heart is still there to feel one of the summons, can at least delude himself to have taken part even if for a short time in this long awaited World Cup. Even if it is of little use, he still has the consolation of still seeing his card in the digital Panini album which is an expression of the great event and where his image cannot be deleted!
