Obviously there is a lot of happiness in his words: “I’m happy to move to Astana , it’s a great team and I can’t wait to face the new challenges. I find several Italians and it will therefore be much easier for me to integrate ”, declared Conti.
Antonio Nibali , 29, is an appreciated wingman. In 2018 he won a stage in the Tour of Austria. “I’m looking forward to meeting the team and starting the new season. I hope to spend some good years in the Astana team , to help achieve the biggest goals of the team. My last two seasons have not been perfect, due to the pandemic, but I hope that next year, step by step, everything will be back to normal ”added Antonio Nibali.
In the past, even the most famous brother Vincenzo was part of Team Astana, with whom he won two Tours of Italy, in 2013 and 2016. The hope is that history can repeat itself with Antonio.
James Knox signs for two years with Deceuninck-Quickstep
Meanwhile, important news also for Deuceuninck-Quickstep : James Knox has signed a two-year contract. The English cyclist continues his adventure with the Belgian reality, which today confirmed the Czech Zdenek Stybar among its ranks.
The 26-year-old Briton commented to his team’s microphones: “I am very happy to have reached an agreement withPatrick and the team. It was an easy decision to make, it didn’t take long to decide to stay. I have been here for four years and it will become six with this contract. I will have covered half of my cycling life with the team, it seems crazy to think about it, but I am very happy to stay and I feel more and more at ease here ”.
James Knox went on to say: “I see myself more as a great lap rider than a classics one. I don’t have the explosiveness of someone like Julian in day racing. I have two finishes in the 15 in the GT, so you can see that they are better suited to me, but the team also has many other talented youngsters, so I could be better used as a wingman ”.
There was no shortage of words from Patrick Lefevere, team manager of the team. “James is a great runner, he always works hard for his teammates. We have seen in the past that he is also capable of being an excellent ranking man ”.
