Despite the bans and restrictions in many Italian cities, the new year was greeted with fireworks and the launch of barrels.
The Interior Ministry has released the official numbers of accidents that have occurred in Italy . There are no victims, but 124 injured of whom 14 are serious. And this is the balance of the New Year’s barrels contained in the report of the public security department. Last year there was one victim and 79 injured, of which 12 were serious. The figure for injured minors is also increasing: 20 compared to 8 last year.
Ten injuries from gunshots, down from 13 in 2021. Hospitalization was required for 31 of the 124 injured overall. In relation to the severity of the injuries reported, there is an increase in the number of injured with a prognosis of less than or equal to 40 days (110 compared to 67 last year). A slight increase, as mentioned (from 12 to 14), is the number of seriously injured, ie those with a prognosis of more than 40 days.
In detail, among the injured there is a serious person in Taranto, a man hit by a bullet and a woman injured in the eyes in Naples and a boy in critical condition in the province of Ascoli Piceno, in the Marche region. In Rome, however, firecrackers were thrown on the passengers of Metro B and on passersby at the entrance to the Colosseum stop.
A 40-year-old man, residing in the Tamburi district of Taranto, suffered serious injuries to his right hand due to the explosion of a defective firecracker. The man arrived in the emergency room in red code. The 40-year-old was then urgently transferred to the Bari Polyclinic, where partial reconstruction of the limb will be attempted.
In the Marche region, in the province of Ascoli Piceno, at the stroke of midnight, a young man was injured by some firecrackers he was blowing up. The boy allegedly suffered serious injuries to both his right and left hands while he was with some friends in the square of Roccafluvione (Ascoli Piceno) to celebrate the arrival of the new year. The boy suffered major injuries to both hands which are evaluated by the doctors in the emergency room of the Mazzoni hospital in Ascoli. He is not in danger of life but he could soon be transferred to the regional hospital of Torrette in Ancona.
In Campania, nine accidents were recorded between Naples and the province, three were rescued in hospitals in the province of Salerno, one in Avellino and one in Caserta. The most serious consequences for a 47-year-old man from Carbonara di Nola, who lost an eye. A 53-year-old in Naples was also injured in the eye, while a 21-month-old child in Salerno suffered minor burns to one hand due to sparks from a Christmas star. Thirty-seven people arrested (48 last year) and 188 reported (180 a year ago) are the data of the activity of contrasting the phenomenon of illegal New Year’s barrels. The item seizures includes 32,501 kg of pyrotechnic products and 2,381 kg of gunpowder but also 10 common firearms and 207 ammunition. In the whole month of December, the police forces controlled 5,128 factories, warehouses and sales outlets (3,815 a year ago), sanctioning 152 (compared to 111).
