Milano Design City “chat” and news on design near the future
Milan has kept the tradition and, despite the complicated moment linked to the health emergency, also for this spring 2021 it has “spoken the language of design” giving life, from 12 to 23 April , at a new edition of the Milano Design City. After the edition held from 28 September to 10 October 2020, completely digital for the obvious reasons we know, a first timid step towards normality while waiting for a real restart that should take place in September – from 5 to 10 September for the exactness – with the actual Fuorisalone and with the highly anticipated, hopefully, the sixtieth edition of the Salone del Mobile 2021 at the fair in Rho, an event announced, but not yet fully confirmed.
For this April appointment, the Milan Design City offered a calendar of appointments and initiatives, in person and not, with some scheduled visits to the showrooms for the presentation of new products, and many virtual events with a schedule of digital exhibitions and thematic forums on different platforms. A sort of dress rehearsal for the restart in September which involved many of the actors who have always been protagonists of the Milanese Design Week. In this unprecedented process of getting closer to what will be the September appointments, a series of appointments have been organized, designed in compliance with the current health regulations in force. A way to “find oneself” of the Italian Design System, but also to talk about creativity and design. Among the presentation of new products, various themes were dealt with by the development of new materials, the relationship between product and project, passing through the understanding of new living spaces, one of the central themes was the presentation of versatile furnishing solutions. more and more dynamic and contaminated.
But not only that, at the center of the various topics dealt with (online and in showrooms) there was also the contemporary theme of the circular economy and the now essential and complex relationship between architecture and ecology, with everything that concerns and pertains to the more growing attention to the environment and sustainability.
After the almost entirely virtual edition of last September, the Milan Design City of this April 2021 was a way to go back to talking (even in person) about design and reopening to production, communication and creativity in a broad sense. An opportunity to activate new dialogues and exchanges with the public but also, and above all, among professionals in the sector with a view to restarting and with a great desire for recovery and a willingness to “go back to making a system and a project” that everyone they wish us.
