The Grup La Pau cooperative incorporates 115 eVito and eSprinter units into its fleet, two fully electric vans , intended for non-urgent medical transport in the provinces of Alava and Vizcaya.
In her presentation, the Deputy Minister for Health Administration and Financing of the Basque Government’s Department of Health , Nerea Urien Azpitarte, pointed out that “sustainability is not only within the scope of the Department of the Environment, but is a firm commitment by the government and the country. And, of course, it is a firm commitment from the Department of Health. Because not only our health depends on gestures and initiatives like this one that we present here today, but also that of the following generations.”

For his part, Andres Orejon, general director of Mercedes-Benz Vans Spain , pointed out that “this project shows that the electrification of our vans is not limited to their adaptation to various applications , such as emergency services in this case. One of our objectives is to improve the profitability of transport companies, which is why we want to offer a product adapted to each of the specific needs inherent to each type of use”. Markus Denzler, worldwide head of the Vans fleet department at Mercedes-Benz AG was also present at the event.
“We are very proud to position ourselves at the forefront of our sector and to be able to present the first fleet of these characteristics in the world in the Basque Country”, Vicenc Chicharro, president of Grup La Pau , pointed out, adding that “being pioneers in this implementation shows our collaboration and commitment to the well-being of citizens that Osakidetza and the Basque Government have shown, also being pioneers in green policies”.
On the esplanade of the San Mamés stadium, where the presentation ceremony was held, a good part of the new fleet was exhibited, made up of 30 eVito vans, 14 eVito Tourers and 71 eSprinters.All the units have been specifically transformed for the service they will undertake, taking into account the peculiarities of an electric vehicle in order to offer the same functions and characteristics of one equipped with a thermal engine. In this case these electric vansThey will be used for the scheduled health transport service, such as the transport of users to diagnosis, treatment or consultation centers and hospital discharges.In any case, the base of the Mercedes eVans allows great flexibility to adapt to different situations of use: from transporting refrigerated goods to long-distance vans or transporting people with reduced mobility, among many other applications.
