Lockdown anxiety and loneliness in this period emerge as an automatic response and physiological and unconscious reaction to the contingent situation.

What is anxiety
We often talk about fear, but anxiety is a different thing. Fear in emergencies, like the current one, is helpful . It signals a situation out of the ordinary that we have to face and therefore prepares us to prepare ourselves to face it with the necessary attention and energy. Anxiety is a state of uncertainty and constant worry that instead of preparing us to face, blocks us, often makes us feel lost, takes away energy, weakens us.
Our stress level increases, the mind enters a fixed state of thought, which repeats itself constantly and magnifies the situation. We feel our whole body involved. The heartbeat accelerates, blood pressure often increases, our intestine makes itself felt by digesting badly, swelling, we can have headaches, a sense of fatigue. This state of anxiety often causes our mind to be in motion with thoughts that are repeated and magnified throughout the day and even during the night and that often do not make us sleep. It is the classic process of the mind lying. It represents an ideal film, it is not in reality.

How to manage anxiety
We therefore need to unblock this process, to return to the present. What can help us

  • Breathe Correctly : Taking regular breaths can help us get back in touch with ourselves and make room for thoughts related to the present. Breathing can be facilitated by meditation exercises, listening visualizations and singing. Yes, try to sing. A song, but also to do vocalizations starting from Aaaaaa then Eeeeeeeee, then Iiiiiiiiii, then Ooooooo, and finally Uuuuuuu.
  • Drink water : when we drink water and hydrate our body, our mind thinks in a clearer, more lucid, present way.
  • Moving the body : an exercise that I propose to you and keeping your head still, move your eyes first to the right and then to the left 5 times and then do this by adding the movement of the legs that will move alternately first to the right and then to the left and the movement of the arms that will cross with the opposite leg. Right arm touches left leg and left arm touches right leg.

Other physical exercises that help you stay in the present and feel calmer and more peaceful are some movements of the eight treasures of tai chi. Very useful is to practice the sequence in the morning as soon as you wake up: the movements are slow and are meditation, concentration and breathing exercises.

  • Support the sky with two hands . Erect, arms outstretched to the side. The arms rise to the sky erect above the head and the hands come together with the palms upward extending even more as if they wanted to support the sky, simultaneously lifting the two heels from the earth. Lower your arms with your hands still together by lowering your heels and come back up. Repeat the exercise several times. This exercise of extension of the trunk and limbs allows the widening of the rib cage and the breathing becomes deep and with this it is possible to absorb more oxygen. This helps to restore energy and calm.
  • Another movement suitable to reduce anxiety is: standing with an upright posture, very slowly move the head first to the right and then to the left. The eyes also roll back as far as possible. This exercise has a revitalizing effect on the blood circulation in the head and clears the mind and helps restore the health of the whole body.

Loneliness
Another state that manifests itself is the strong feeling of loneliness , of isolation. Loneliness does not always have a negative connotation. Sometimes we feel that it is pleasant to be alone, to be in the company of ourselves. But this happens when we are well, we are at peace and in balance. Suffered loneliness, on the other hand, is synonymous with detachment from oneself and from the world.

What can make us feel better and feel less alone
What can make us feel better
If the sun is out, stand by the window and enjoy its rays if you can. Take a notebook and create your logbook. Write down your dreams, your wishes, your thoughts. Define your concrete goals each day and translate them into a daily action plan. Give yourself rhythm during the days. Listen to in-depth radio programs, intervene. If you are social, write your thoughts in post, share. Join study or interest groups. Offer your contribution. Open up to the world. You will see the movement that will be created!
