Karate or karate ,
what is the correct way to write this martial art originating in Japan

The answer is that both karate and karate are valid ways to name the Japanese fighting modality. The Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) clarifies that plain karate accentuation is more frequent in America and esdrujula karate in Spain .
According to the RAE , the flat accentuation karate [karate] is the etymological and most widespread in America. However, in Spain the esdrujula accentuation of the word karate is more common.
Another frequent doubt related to karate is about its derivative that designates the person who practices it. In this other casethe RAE also clarifies that it can be written karateca or karateka, although the preferable form is with ‘c’.
