There is no doubt; Matteo Salvini is rediscovering that “political flair” that he had blatantly lost in August, when he was able to get himself knocked out. He understood that there is an attempt on the part of the “strong powers” to recover it and put it to the test in the government of the country, in the belief that only a center-right with Salvinian hegemony can ensure stability and continuity.
However, they ask Salvini to provide proof of political sustainability in relation to international institutions, political and military alliances, Italy’s permanence – albeit criticized in words – in the European Union and in the Euro. Not only does Salvini celebrate these autodafas, but they are subjected to a chain of Northern League leaders who – interviewed by the media – claim that they were not well understood when, in the past, anti-European sentiments were attributed to them. Before the rooster crows three times, they do not hesitate to deny affirmations that have been repeated habitually for years.
Changing your mind is legitimate and sometimes appropriate. But for the operation to be credible, a political party and its leaders would have to account for the analyzes, the self-critical debate that made a change of line necessary. So at least did the serious parties. If this does not happen with a minimum of transparency, it would be up to free information to denounce that the ” redeemed ” woke up in the morning with thoughts different from those with which they had gone to bed the night before. Instead, the media compete to highlight the changes and to be good witnesses and guarantors of the sincerity of the conversion.
Personally I believe that too much importance should not be given to the double-breasted coat that Salvini wears in interviews. It’s just a communication strategy. The former Captain knows that his constituents read the written texts spelling the words and then, sooner or later, they give up.
