Since there is not even the shadow of early elections, albeit loudly requested by the center-right opposition and threatened by the President of the Republic himself in the event of a crisis “in the dark”, which in Italy is the rule because it is missing in our Constitution the institution of the so-called constructive mistrust set by the Germans, every time the Giallorossi majority falters, perhaps due to a sneeze of Matteo Renzi or some of the seismic tremors that are repeated among the grillini, everyone hopes for the strength of the Democratic Party. Even those who declare themselves adversaries and say plague and horns in public do so, aware instead that for now they constitute the only stabilizing element, especially in the economic and social crisis destined to worsen after the damage already caused by the viral epidemic.
Even physically, with that decisive step and chest out as the brother of Commissioner Montalbano while walking down the street, and with the verbal air of the requests for “concreteness” and “change” to the Prime Minister, thinking of the problems that Giuseppe Conte has with his party at least of reference, which is the non-party of the 5 Stars studied just today by Carlo Galli on Repubblica, the secretary of the Democratic Party Nicola Zingaretti tries to give himself and give courage even to those who do not vote for him. But when you think, or others remind those who don’t think about it, or reveal to those who don’t know, that they are actually holding the Democratic Party from a long way off, since they spend a good part of the year in distant and yellow Thailand, where they have a home, servants and so on, now held longer at such a great distance due to the complications of air and other connections in times of coronavirus, confidence begins to falter. And the fear increases.
Naturally, I am referring to Goffredo Bettini, who continuously sends messages by telephone, the last of which has just been entrusted to Fatto Quotidiano. Where in the recall of the interview on the front page he was indicated to readers as “the gray eminence” of the Democratic Party, of which he raised a few secretaries, and was Capitoline secretary, discoverer of mayors, including the lucky Francesco Rutelli and Walter Veltroni but also the unfortunate Ignazio Marino. But on the inside page, where there was more space to describe him, and he became “the great old man”. Which is a bit of a wrong for his, after all, only 68 years – if I counted those that passed since 1952 assigned to his birth – and a bit of a ghost, given what during the years of lead was meant precisely by ” the great old man “: the one who pulled the strings of terrorism and made us live worse than the fear of viral contagion is now doing. At that time we were really killed.
That “giant” given by Bettini to Conte, with all the respect – for charity – due to the professor, lawyer and so on, frankly seemed exaggerated to me. I would not want Bettini to think of allocating it, as late as possible of course, to the “Giants’ tombs”, with a capital letter, of Nuragic Sardinia. And then, excuse me, it seemed to me no less exaggerated that bet by Bettini – listen, feel – on the “authority”, on the “intuition and unitary will” of Beppe Grillo. Which was so valid then a little more than 10 years ago, when Bettini was already on the political market to dispense advice, directives and so on, accept the request for registration in the Pd in ​​Arzachena and the claimed right to participate in the competition for the succession to Walter Veltroni, or to the regent Dario Franceschini, as secretary.
