Make-up product brands are the bane of any woman’s existence, don’t you think so? But do you know what to do to remove makeup from clothes ?

Not only do they seem to appear at the most inopportune times, but they also require a large amount of energy to remove.

Whether you’re pulling a top over your face and a streak of deodorant magically appears or someone hugs you and transfers their foundation to your neck, they’re just not fun to deal with.

Fortunately, there are a few ways to deal with those marks instead of sacrificing another piece of clothing or bedroom sheets.

How to remove makeup from clothes: some practical tips

Below you will find a compilation of some of the most common problems and how you can solve them.

  • Lipstick

Since most lipsticks are oil-based, using an equally supported cleanser will likely remove the mark. Get yourself a grease-fighting liquid soap and start by blotting the stain with a clean tissue to remove excess color.

Next, spray the mark with clean water, but don’t soak the fabric. Gently rub a drop of the soap on the macula and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

Then, use a clean terry cloth towel to rub the soap into the mark in a circular motion from the outer edges to the center. To finish, wipe the section of fabric with a dry towel and if the stain has not been completely removed, repeat the process as required.

Subsequently, you can use a good alcohol to make the mark disappear. Simply moisten a cloth or cotton ball and place it directly over the mark until it fades.

This method may take a little longer, but it is just as effective. Just make sure to treat the mark as soon as it happens.

  • Foundation and self-tanner

If you’re using a liquid foundation, it will soak into the fabric very quickly, so the sooner you can get to the mark, the better. Start by scraping off any leftover base with a plastic knife, then blot with a damp paper towel to remove more product.

Next, pour a few drops of hydrogen peroxide on that mark and impregnate the fabric helping you with your hands. Then work into the mark in a circular motion with a toothbrush. Then wash the fabric and lay it on a flat surface to dry.

When it’s a powder-based sign, combine some liquid soap and water to apply it on it; Rub the fabric first with your fingers and then do it with the help of a toothbrush. Finish by washing the garment and laying it flat, that is, spread out, to dry.

For both powder and liquid formulas, baby wipes are also effective on fresh stains, not ones that have been in contact for hours or days.

Since most don’t notice tan stains until hours after an appointment, stain removal requires a little more time. Your best bet is to soak the clothing or sheet in a solution of hydrogen peroxide and water.

  • Mask

Get yourself a prewash stain remover and work it into the mark with the brush that comes with these types of detergents. Let sit for about 10-15 minutes, then rinse with hot water.

Wash the garment immediately, either by hand or in the machine (whatever works best for you). Let it dry instead of putting it in the dryer, especially if the mark isn’t completely dry.

Remember that this type of heat can further set the macula instead of working to remove it.

  • Deodorant

Deodorant may not be part of your makeup, but it always leaves marks on your clothes. Using a pair of nylons or a dry cloth, rub the fabric against the mark of the deodorant and it will almost immediately come off the garment.

If you treat the stain immediately after it appears with a damp cloth, that can also often work and count as a good trick.

How to remove liquid makeup stains

Makeup like foundation, concealer, bronzer, and blush enhance your appearance, well, they’re supposed to, but it’s not the same when it comes to your wardrobe, your bedding, and your rug. Here’s how to remove those marks.

If there is a foundation mark on the fabric, use a dull table knife or the edge of a credit card to lift the solids off the fabric. Don’t rub because it will push it deeper into the fibers and that makes it harder to remove.

To get rid of those liquid or semi-liquid stains and concealer stains on washable clothes, start by treating the oily/waxy component of the clothes with a pre-treatment of any washable fabric stain remover.

Put it on the macula with your finger or a soft bristle brush. If you don’t have a stain remover, then use a heavy-duty liquid bleach that contains enough enzymes to remove marks or make a paste of powdered detergent and water.

Allow the bleach solution to remain on the fabric for at least fifteen minutes, then lightly scrub with a soft brush and rinse with hot water.

Finally, wash the marked item in the hottest water suitable for the fabric with detergent and bleach to remove any dyes in the fabric. If traces of the makeup stain remain, combine a bleach solution with an oxygen base and cold water.

Follow package directions for the amount of product per gallon of water. Completely submerge the garment and let it soak for at least eight hours. Check the brand. If not, wash as usual.

If it stays, mix a new solution and repeat the operation. It may take a few tries to remove the tick, but it should come out. Be patient!

How to remove powder makeup stains

For dry powders, bronzers, and blushes, use a sticky lint roller to remove grains of powder from the fabric.

Do not rub, avoid pushing the product deeper into the fibers of the fabric. If that happens and the fabric is discolored, follow the same steps to remove the marks as for liquid foundation.

As with any stain, the sooner it can be treated, the greater the chance of success in removing it. If the garment is dry clean only, point out and identify the stain with your professional cleaner when you leave the garment in this type of facility.

If you are using a home dry cleaning kit, be sure to treat the stain with the provided stain remover before placing the garment in the dryer bag.

The care of your clothes when you decide how to remove makeup from clothes by yourself, does not require more dedication and care from you.
