Drug use in Spain after the pandemic continues its growing trend. If during the confinement 71.9% of the people surveyed who declare themselves to be consumers of illegal psychoactive substances ceased or reduced the frequency or quantity of their consumption, after the cessation of the restrictions the consumption of some substances has increased its figures again .
The data from the Government Delegation for the National Plan on Drugs of the Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare, in relation to the consumption of illegal drugs, indicate that cannabis is, by far, the most widespread in Spain.
Cocaine is thesecond most consumed illegal drug in Spain : 11.2% of the population between 15 and 64 years of age acknowledge having used it at some point in their lives, an indicator that has increased by almost 1 percentage point compared to 2017.
In 2019 , registered 50,035 admissions to treatment for abuse or dependence on illegal substances, more than half of them (54.9%), for the first time in life. Cocaine remains the drug that caused the greatest number of admissions (44.7% of the total), followed by cannabis (28.4%) and opioids (22.3%). However, in the case of minors, the majority drug is cannabis (95.2% of the total).
In this sense, every time a person consumes some type of drug, the substance leaves a chemical signature in the body. However, just as they do not all cause the same effect, they do not remain active and detectable in our body for the same time.
The time that the drug remains in the body will vary according to the substance consumed, age, weight, fat storage or metabolism of each person. In addition, alcohol can also slow down the removal of the drug from the body . But, for how long are the different drugs detected in the urine
URINE DRUG DETECTION TEST
All drugs that enter the human body are metabolized in the liver (transformed into removable substances called metabolites) and eliminated by the kidney (although they can also be eliminated through feces, sweat, etc.). Therefore they are detectable in the urine.
Urine analysis allows us to detect the most consumed drugs in our society today, that is, cocaine, cannabis, opiates and amphetamines. In fact, urine is the most widely used means of detecting whether someone has used a drug, since the substance accumulates in greater amounts in urine than in blood.
The mentioned factors that influence this process give an approximate time for each drug :
Alcohol: 12 hours
Amphetamines: 4 days
Benzodiazepines: 7-10 days
Cocaine: 4 days
Codeine: 7 days
Heroin: 4 days
Marijuana: 30 days
