2020 and 2021 were a bit difficult years for everyone, even for us travelers, due to the many limitations we had to face. In the summer of 2021, the world slowly began to open up again and between a trip out of town or a more challenging journey we were able to set foot outside the home again. Maybe we have also learned to discover the places behind the house with new eyes. We hope for a better 2022, slowly, step by step, we will be able to go back to doing what we love most: traveling .
So let’s find out together what are the holidays and Bridges of 2022 , all the opportunities to live even just two days different from the usual, escaping from this everyday life to which we are unfortunately used to now.
Bridges and Italian Holidays 2022
Compared to 2021, 2022 will have a few more holidays: several holidays will fall on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays, allowing us to spend some long weekends or weekends out of town . This is the case on Monday 25 April or Monday 15 August, while the Republic Day (2 June) and the Immaculate Conception, for example, fall on Thursday, allowing us to organize a long bridge. But let’s find out together how to make the most of all these opportunities!

New Year’s Bridge 2022 and Epiphany
Unfortunately, New Year’s Eve falls badly in this 2022: January 1st and a Saturday. If you can take the 31st of vacation, or maybe you work only in the morning, you will still be able to move to spend 3 days in the mountains or in some Italian city.
However, if you manage to take 3 days of vacation, thus also including the Epiphany which falls on Thursday 6 January, you could instead enjoy almost a week of vacation . In this case, you can opt for a capital like Prague, wonderful on New Year’s Eve thanks to the many shows, but rather cold. Alternatively, we recommend Madrid, full of traditions and events on the occasion of the New Year celebrations.
But doing the math, you should also take Friday 8 of vacation, thus enjoying 10 days of vacation! Hoping that the health emergency is now resolved, starting on December 31styou could also opt for a warm New Year : in this case, we recommend Dubai!

- Bridge duration : 6 days. 3 holidays (Saturday 1, Sunday 2 and Thursday 6 Jan), 3 working days (Monday 3, Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 Jan)
- Suggested destinations : Prague, Madrid, Dubai, Italian cities
Maxi-New Year’s Bridge – Epiphany 2022 : from Friday 31 December to Sunday 9 January you can treat yourself to a 10-day vacation by taking some specific holidays (5 days of vacation if you do not work on Saturday, including Friday 31 December, or 6 days of vacation if for you Saturday and working day).
Bridge of 6 January – Epiphany
If you are unable to take holidays to enjoy the maxi New Year’s bridge, you can still consider the Epiphany bridge. In 2022, in fact, January 6 falls on a Thursday, giving away 4 days to organize a nice long weekend somewhere.
In this case, the choice depends a lot on what you did on New Year’s Eve. If you have stayed at home, then you can take advantage of these 4 days to organize a weekend in the snow. You can stay in Italy, reaching for example Trentino or Bormio and Valtellina, or abroad, reaching one of the best places to ski in Switzerland.
If you are with children, Gardaland near Verona and Leolandia near Bergamo organize a magical Christmas inside the park, which lasts until the entire weekend of the epiphany.
If you don’t like skiing, you can reach some large European cities , such as Budapest, where you can alternate visits to the city with a relaxing afternoon in one of the spas.

Easter and Easter Monday weekend
The Easter and Easter Monday bridge in 2022 falls in mid-April, more precisely on Sunday 17 April . If the health emergency is resolved, we can think of organizing a weekend out of town, in Italy or abroad.
Spring is the ideal time to live a slow experience , or a quiet and relaxed journey. Ideal to discover the mountains, such as the wonderful Dolomites, or the characteristic villages of your region , which with the rising temperatures slowly awaken from the cold winter. For example, in Tuscany you can visit villages such as Montepulciano or the Chianti and Val d’Orcia areas, in Sicily instead the Val di Noto.
This can also bethe opportunity to organize a weekend abroad . The perfect destination is Spain, where this holiday is deeply felt. The top is Easter in Seville, alternatively you can opt for Valencia.

- Bridge duration : 3 days. 2 holidays (Sunday 17 and Monday 18 Apr), 1 weekday (Saturday 16 Apr)
- Suggested destination : Dolomites, regional villages, Seville, Valencia
Bridge of 25 April – Liberation Day
On 25 April, the Liberation Day, this year fortunately falls on a Monday . This will allow us to spend a long weekend .
If you only have 2 days available because you work on Saturdays, you can stay in your region but take the opportunity to discover new places . If, for example, in Liguria you have already seen the Cinque Terre, opt for the Toirano or Taggia Caves and the Argentina Valley; if in Piedmont you have already visited the Langhe, opt for the villages of Biella or the Sacra di San Michele. Each region certainly has a “piece” yet to be discovered! Here you will find some suggestions for each Italian region.
If you can have 3 days (from Sat 23 to Mon 25 April), this is an opportunity to check one of the main Italian cities ! Certainly, among the most important there will be some that are still missing in your list: Rome, Bologna, Florence, Palermo, Naples, choose one of the most beautiful Italian cities for a Spring weekend.
If you prefer abroad , we recommend Bled, Slovenia, which in spring is absolutely spectacular! The destinations not to be missed in Spring in Europe are however many!

- Bridge duration : 3 days. 2 holidays (Sunday 24 and Monday 25 April), 1 weekday (Saturday 23 April)

May Day Bridge – Labor Day
No bridge for May Day, Labor Day, which unfortunately falls on Sunday ! Nothing will change, it will be a simple weekend like all the others. But you can take advantage of a Sunday trip out of town .
One of the musts in Italy is the May Day Concert in Rome: if you are already in Rome and its surroundings, there is no reason to move.
If you are looking for something tantalizing in northern Italy, we suggest the Trieste and Carso area, or a picnic in the hills of Valdobbiadene in Veneto. If you are a wine lover , a great alternative and a day in Franciacorta.
In central Italy, it can be an opportunity fordiscover the villages of your region or neighboring ones, allowing yourself a night out.
If you live in the South, maybe it is already time to enjoy a day at the beach: the period is perfect to alternate walks and dives on the Amalfi Coast, between the villages of the Val di Noto, between the Salento and Calabrian coasts.

- Bridge duration : 2 days. 1 holidays (Sunday 1 May), 1 weekday (Saturday 30 April)

Bridge of 2 June – Republic
Day The Republic Day this year is celebrated on Thursday . Perfect for organizing a long weekend, taking Friday as a bridge to have 4 days at your disposal.
In this case, the perfect opportunity for a short trip to Europe . Given the ideal climate almost everywhere, the choice is a lot, but we want to recommend Alsace, in France, and Innsbruck, in Austria, both of which can also be reached by car from northern Italy.
If you want (and can) move a little more, the period is excellent for the Northern Capitals : Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, but also further east towards Helsinki, St. Petersburg and the Baltic capitals.
If you prefer to stay in Italy, treat yourself to an early summer in Southern Italy. For us, the top in this period is the Riserva dello Zingaro, perhaps the most beautiful sea in Sicily, and where you can alternate diving and trekking in the midst of wild nature. In any case, you are spoiled for choice: here are the places to go to the beach in Italy in June.
- Bridge duration : 4 days. 2 holidays (Thursday 2 and Sunday 5 Jun), 2 working days (Friday 3 and Saturday 4 Jun)
- Suggested destinations : Alsace, Innsbruck, Northern Capitals, Zingaro Reserve, Southern beaches
Ferragosto
bridge The Ferragosto bridge is one of the most awaited by Italians , also thanks to the possibility of organizing longer stays, taking advantage of the summer holidays. This year we have a little more luck than in 2021: in 2022, in fact, mid-August falls on a Monday .
Regardless of the holidays, you can therefore count on three days to organize a weekend at the beach . However, a premise must be made: mid-August is the most expensive and crowded period. If you don’t want to give up the sea but prefer an alternative to the chaotic Adriatic Riviera or the crowded Amalfi Coast, consider these super low cost but beautiful destinations: Palinuro in Campania, Mazara del Vallo in Sicily or Martinsicuro in Abruzzo. Or opt for the coastal resorts of Albania and Montenegro.
If you prefer the mountains to the sea , here too the choice is very wide: Sappada and Malborghetto in Friuli, Cortina d’Ampezzo in Veneto, Civitella Alfedena in Abruzzo, the alternatives for summer holidays in the mountains in Italy are really many, and they are not of course the Dolomites!

Halloween / All Saints’ weekend – November 1st
The All Saints Day, which is celebrated on November 1st, falls on Tuesday in 2022 ! Therefore, considering the previous weekend, you can have 4 days , from 29 to 1.
With 4 days available, go straight to the tops for Halloween : Jack the Ripper’s London and Dracula’s Transylvania! Excellent alternatives are also Dublin and Prague.
If you want to stay in Italy, there are still many festivals and traditions throughout the Peninsula . For lovers of good food we recommend the International Truffle Fair in Alba, Piedmont, or you can discover the dark side of Venice, with a tour among ghosts and legends.
If you are traveling with your family , there are many places to visit with children! The largest parks organize themed events, so you can choose between Gardaland, Mirabilandia or Cinecitta World in Italy, or go to Disneyland, Europa Park or PortAventura World.
This is also a magical moment to visit the village of Grazzano Visconti , in Emilia Romagna, a small medieval village where there is one of the largest shops in Italy dedicated to the magic of Harry Potter!

- Bridge duration : 4 days. 2 holidays (Sunday 30 October and Tuesday 1 Nov), 2 weekdays (Saturday 29 and Monday 31 Oct)

Long weekend of the Immaculate Conception – December 8
And even December gives us a beautiful bridge! December 8th this year falls on a Thursday , like June 2nd. If you can take a Friday, you will have 4 days to organize a trip.
Given the time available, one of the top destinations in Europe is definitely Amsterdam: you can admire the lights of the Amsterdam Light Festival. If you are looking for a less mainstream destination, we recommend Lyon, which in these days shines more than ever with the “Fete des lumieres”, an event that lights up the city in every corner for 4 days, with about 70 light installations and scattered projections. for the city.
If you prefer to stay in our beautiful country, the council and Naples, with the district of San Gregorio Armeno, a real must for lovers of cribs. Alternatively, you could let yourself be conquered by the famous Luci d’Artista, in nearby Salerno! If you prefer snow-covered landscapes and Christmas markets, then the top ones are Merano and Bressanone in Trentino Alto Adige.

- Bridge duration : 4 days. 2 holidays (Sunday 11th and Thursday 8th December), 2 working days (Friday 9th and Saturday 10th December)
- Suggested destinations : Amsterdam, Lyon, Naples, Salerno, Merano, Bressanone
Christmas bridge and Boxing Day
As for 2021, also in 2022 the Christmas holidays do not fall in the best way: Christmas and on Sunday and Boxing day on Monday . This means that Christmas Eve, December 24th, falls on a Saturday. We will still have three days to organize something.
If you want to experience Christmas abroad , you will have three days at your disposal, starting on the 24th morning (or better still Friday 23rd evening) and returning on Monday 26th evening.
If you prefer the snow option, we recommend Salzburg; as a European destination, in addition to the classic Paris and Vienna, the top is Rovaniemi, but it is really very expensive. Also consider Brussels and Colmar; if you prefer a warmer location, go to Lisbon.
If you prefer to stay in Italy instead, as a snow option, the must-haves are the Dolomites and Valtellina. If you are looking for some enchanted village, go to Erice in Sicily, or Manarola, in Liguria, where the largest nativity scene in the world is set up !

Maxi-Bridge Christmas 2022 / New Year’s Eve 2023 : from Saturday 24 December to Sunday 1 January you can treat yourself to a 9-day holiday by taking some specific holidays. In this case, think big: the top options are Christmas in New York or in the heat, in Dubai or Rio de Janeiro!
New Year’s Eve 2023 and Epiphany
And as for Christmas, unfortunately the New Year also falls badly in 2023: January 1st and a Sunday . This means that December 31st, being a Saturday, if you don’t work you can spend it at home, but January 2nd, which is Monday, you already go back to work. We only have two days left to spend outside and, given the conditions, the best thing is to spend it in your region , perhaps in the mountains or participating in some event.
Epiphany falls on a Friday : well but not very well. This means that to organize a maxi bridge from Saturday 31 December to Sunday 8 January, it is necessary to take 4 days of vacation (from Monday 2 to Thursday 5 January). If you can do it, you will have 9 days ! In this case, you can opt for hot spots like Dubai and Sharm el Sheikh.

Maxi-New Year’s Bridge – Epiphany 2023 : from Saturday 31 December to Sunday 8 January you can treat yourself to a 9-day holiday by taking some targeted holidays.
Long weekend of January 6 – Epiphany 2023
In 2023, January 6 falls on a Friday . You can therefore enjoy a long weekend of 3 days, in which to organize something close to home or abroad.
If you want to stay in the beautiful country , there are several places to go on holiday in January! You can opt for the cities of art: in Verona you can combine a tour on Lake Garda, and if you are with children, in Gardaland; in Pisa you can take advantage of it for an excursion in Chianti, and in Matera for an excursion in the Itria Valley among the trulli of Alberobello. Alternatively, you canorganize a long weekend on skis : there are numerous places to ski in Italy, scattered throughout the peninsula.
If you want to organize a getaway in Europe , you have to take into account that you only have three days available. You can perhaps leave on Thursday evening, to earn a night of travel, but you will have to return on Sunday. It is therefore better to reach places well connected to Italy, such as the great European capitals.
- Bridge duration : 3 days. 2 holidays (Friday 6 and Sunday 8 Jan), 1 weekday (Saturday 7 Jan)
- Suggested destinations : Verona, Pisa, Matera, Italian destinations for skiing, European capitals
