It’s called the Future Investment Initiative (Fii), and it’s a Saudi non-profit foundation. Renamed “The Davos of the Desert” (the World Economic Forum is held in Davos, Switzerland), it also has Matteo Renzi, founder and leader of Italia Viva, senator and member of the Defense commission, among its board members.

The Future Investment Initiative was created by a decree of the Saudi king, Salman bin Abd al-Aziz Al Sau. The foundation is headed by the king’s son, Mohammad bin Salman, crown prince, and president of the Public Investment Fund, chairman of the Saudi Arabian Economic and Development Council.

Among the members of the foundation council there is also Matteo Renzi, former president of the Council of Ministers, from February 2014 to December 2016, and mayor of Florence from June 2009 to February 2014. Another member of the Board of Trustees is Yasir O. Al-Rumayyan, who has been Governor of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund since 2015, leading all operational areas of the sovereign wealth fund. He is also a Director of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, since 2016.
He holds key positions on the boards of some of the most influential companies and organizations in the world: and President of Saudi Aramco, the most valuable listed company in the world, and President of Ma’aden since September 2019 and is a member of the board of Uber Technologies, SoftBank Group Corp. and ARM Limited.
