“The Red Cross has always been at the side of the local population and civilians in Ukraine – in these years of conflict – underlines Francesco Rocca,President of the Italian Red Cross and of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)– providing humanitarian and socio-health assistance, working to facilitate family reunification, supporting civil authorities in the management of essential infrastructures and services, giving hospitals technical support, medicines and various equipment, finally contributing to the reconstruction of affected water and gas pipelines from military attacks. With the escalation of violence, the Ukrainian Red Cross and the entire International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent immediately took action, thanks to the extraordinary work of the volunteers, in delicate operations of assistance to the population. Public first aid information campaigns were also launched, as well as appeals for the protection of the population, respect for international humanitarian law and human rights. Finally, they were prepared humanitarian stocks. But the needs and requests for intervention are multiple and in different geographical areas of the country. For this reason, we have decided to launch an urgent appeal that can help us to concretely reach as many people as possible. Thanks!”.
“Once again we want to thank RAI for Social Affairs for this precious and timely support – declares Chiara Cardoletti, UNHCR representative for Italy, the Holy See and San Marino-. We are gravely concerned about the immense suffering suffered by the population as a result of the ongoing military action in Ukraine. The situation in the country is very fluid and changes from hour to hour, we estimate that to date over 100,000 people have already fled their homes and are displaced within the country, while over 115,000 have crossed international borders heading towards Poland and Moldova and Neighboring countries. This is a refugee crisis that could last for a long time, so we have intensified our operations in the area and are ready to provide assistance wherever needed and possible. But everyone’s contribution is needed: even a little help can make a difference right now “.
“This is a terrible time for children across the country. – declares Carmela Pace,UNICEF President Italy – The military operation in Ukraine represents an immediate threat to the life and well-being of the 7.5 million children living in the country. In recent days, the needs of children and families have been increasing in tandem with the worsening of the emergency. We have workers in the country in offices, as well as mobile child protection teams that provide psychosocial support to traumatized children. We cannot abandon the children and families of Ukraine. We thank RAI for the Social Network for being once again on the side of the most vulnerable “.
