The State Police Musical Band performed this morning in Reggio Emilia on the occasion of the celebrations for the 225th anniversary of the adoption of the first Tricolor, at the Romolo Valli Municipal Theater in Piazza dei Martiri. The presence of the band complex on the occasion of the celebrations for the adoption of the first Tricolor, represents a unicum in the history of the city for the entire community. The Band will perform, at the end of the event, in the majestic Valli theater.
The Minister of Education, Patrizio Bianchi , signed the roll of honor of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia this morning, after having delivered, together with the mayor, Luca Vecchi, a copy of the Italian Constitutionto a delegation of students from lower secondary schools in the city. The celebrations for the feast of the Tricolore began with the expansive ringing of the civic bell and, in Piazza Prampolini, with the raising of the flag, military honors and the performance of the national anthem. A paratrooper , in the presence of Bianchi, landed with the tricolor flag of 150 square meters in the central square of the Emilian city, the launch was carried out by the Army Sports Activities Department, part of the Folgore Parachute Brigade.
“Symbols are important, symbols are not just something that is pinned to the chest or arranged on a feast day. In symbols we must recognize ourselves, they are bearers of values. The flag, Bianchi said, does not only speak to us of a historical event, he speaks to us of a daily life of the blood of many of our friends, relatives and fellow citizens who have suffered and who are suffering at this moment, he speaks to us of our hopes, which must never be individual but collective, but also speaks to us of our ability to resist and react. Thus, concluded the minister, like the gold medal, which is on the flag of the noble city of Reggio Emilia, reminds us ” Green like the plains, white like the Alps and the Apennines and redlike the blood of the victims of wars. This is the most accredited explanation of the origin of the colors of the Italian flag which today, 7 January, turns 225 years old . Symbol of freedom
The tricolor flag becomes the symbol of freedom in Mazzinian uprisings and uprisings in the name of national unity . In 1848 it officially became the flag of the Kingdom of Sardinia, starting to wave in the seat of the Subalpine Senate in Turin. The version of the time had the Savoy coat of arms in the center surrounded by blue (national color of Italy, hence the definition of “blue” for sportsmen who compete in any discipline) to prevent the Savoy cross from becoming confused on the white background .The unification of Italy
After the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy on March 17, 1861 , the tricolor is in fact the official flag, but there is still no legislative recognition that precisely establishes its characteristics. The law that clarifies it only comes in 1925 and requires that, in addition to the three colors green, white and red, the banner must have the emblem of the royal crown in the center . In this capacity, it begins to be exhibited in all institutional venues and in the residences of sovereigns. In the Constitution “The flag of the Republic and the Italian tricolor : green, white and red, with three vertical bands of equal size”. So says article 12of the Italian Constitution, which entered into force on 1 January 1948 , which excludes the Savoy coat of arms and marks the official election of the tricolor flag as a symbol of the new republican Italy. Since 1997, January 7 has officially become the Giornata del Tricolore, initially established with the aim of celebrating the bicentenary of his birth.
