At the behest of the family, anyone wishing to express their participation in mourning can make a donation in memory of Ennio Doris to the Mediolanum Onlus Foundation.
On 4 November, Doris, born in Tombolo, in the province of Padua, was appointed honorary chairman of the bank for an indefinite period by the shareholders’ meeting held in Verona. The entrepreneur, who has always been a major investor in the equity sector, even in the darkest moments of the cracks of the last twenty years, had left the presidency and his role on the board of directors of the group in September.
For some time, the operational guide of the bank has been in the hands of his son Massimo, CEO since July 2008. Doris was an innovator in relations with customers, summarized in the spot “all around you” in which he was the protagonist. A great communicator, with a direct approach and a thoughtful use of television, he has given an important turning point to the marketing of the banking and asset management sectors.
Silvio Berlusconi, a longtime friend and partner in Banca Mediolanum, said: “Doris, a great Italian, a generous man and my great friend. We will miss her very much.” His daughter Marina Berlusconi explained that “the disappearance leaves us dismayed. He was a brilliant entrepreneur, the most correct and loyal of the partners, to whom the whole Fininvest group owes a lot”. For me, he added, “he was also an irreplaceable point of reference and a wonderful teaching. I will never forget the way he conceived life and work, the generosity, the rare ability to build
one of the main Italian groups without losing the genuineness and enthusiasm of the beginnings. To the splendid family that has been able to create,
“Ennio Doris left us. A visionary, a decent person, a good giant with a huge heart, a teacher of life. I will miss you very much, dear Ennio”, commented Forza Italia deputy, Sestino Giacomoni, member of the Coordination of presidency of the blue party. “For me you have been an example and a point of reference, always present, always optimistic, always close to those in need. A strong hug to Lina, Sara and Massimo, with deep affection and friendship”.
And the president of ABI, Antonio Patuelli, expressed his “most sincere condolences for the death” of this “enlightened and highly innovative, attentive and sensitive entrepreneur and banker” at the same time as the growth of the company, customers and collaborators. “I keep the memory of Ennio strong, of our dialogues on culture and market rules, for economic and social growth in a free democracy”, added Patuelli.
For his part, Gian Maria Mossa, CEO of Banca Generali, commented: “Today is a sad day for family, friends and all those who believe in financial advice. An extraordinary man of great integrity who has written an important piece of our industry by pursuing strong values such as trust, respect and centrality of the person. A person who has lived the faith in every action he has carried out, with a sense of family and community from which we must all be inspired “.
Last week, director Ferzan Ozpetek presented in Rome, in the presence of the CEO Massimo Doris, “The man who invents the future”, the new short film made for Banca Mediolanum which sees Filippo Nigro as the protagonist. A tribute to Ennio Doris and his philosophy of investing with a long-term perspective to create wealth and value in support of the whole family.
Banca Mediolanum, owned by the Fininvest group (historical partner of Doris and always Silvio Berlusconi) is now worth about 6.4 billion in Piazza Affari. (All rights reserved)
