And here we are to take stock of this 2017 Cycling World Championship which ended on Sunday 24 September. Great Holland and above all great Sagan, but our eyes are now on the Azzurri who close this experience with an excellent result. Italy wins seven medals and can be considered the biggest surprise of the world championships in Bergen. No other nation has done better, but the weight of the various metals was different: the Netherlands obtained four golds and two silvers, Italy, on the other hand, two golds, three silvers and two bronzes .
The first big medals arrive in the female junior category with Elena Pirrone’s gold and Alessia Vigilia’s silver. During the time trial they proved to be very fast and prepared by climbing together on the podium, side by side.
But the junior category has not stopped giving satisfactions yet and the next day, on September 19th, another one arrives with Antonio Puppio , who climbs on the podium to win the silver medal in the men’s junior category. The time trial saw him fight against some really fearsome opponents and, although he was unable to conquer the first position, for the Italian national team and a great success.

Italy never ceases to amaze and we find ours once againElena Pirrone exult from the first position of the podium with her gold medal won in the road test on 22 September . Double for the very young cyclist who can now think about framing her world championship jerseys in memory of a world championship that saw her triumph in a great way.
During the same race also in this case Pirrone does not celebrate alone and shares the joy of victory with compatriot Letizia Paternoster who wins third place . Therefore, they are confirmed as two young and talented cyclists from whom to expect a lot in the next races.
The men’s junior category concludes this exceptional world-wide trial with two other all blue medals: Luca Rastelli and Michele Gazzoli, second and third place after the Danish Julius Johansen.
Both young cyclists competed very well, making full use of their skills and not wasting energy, which they needed in the last stretch to break away from all the others and win the silver and bronze medals in the road race.
Excellent team play and excellent result for a very fit junior Italy, which leaves Italy fully satisfied.
The medal table, therefore, sees Italy triumphant with seven medals: for such an exploit it is necessary to go back to the two- year period 2007-2008 when Italy closed both editions of the World Cup at the top of the standings (three medals in Stuttgart in 2007 and four in Varese the following year). A result that leaves thect Cassani gloating and confident , despite the fact that no medals have been earned by the professional category, both women and men.
Great trials for elite athletes in the competition, starting with that of Trentin who won a worthy fourth place in the final in Bergen. But a good mark in the report card and right to put it also to Gianni Moscon , who has been noticed in recent days for his excellent performances.
Therefore, taking a final balance sheet, we can say without a doubt that Italy is returning home as a winnerand ready to leave again towards the next goals. It can boast of having really smart cyclists, who have all the credentials to still give important victories to our country. In short, the future is smiling
