The new Blas Infante
regional health center has opened its doors today, twelve years after the laying of the first stone of this building whose construction has suffered continuous delays. The opening of the new Primary Care consultations in Coria del Rio will be progressive and, meanwhile, the shells that house the Virgen de la Estrella II health center will continue to receive patients. The prefabricated facilities, which have become obsolete for health care, began operating years ago due to the care needs in the municipality.
The Virgen de la Estrella I health center , a historic health point in Coria del RioIt has closed due to renovation works. During these works, the Primary Care Emergency point will remain operational in the new Blas Infante regional center . These new health facilities are located on a plot of 1,986 square meters ceded by the Coria City Council , and its construction has involved an investment of 3.6 million euros from the Andalusian Health Service (SAS). The laying of the first stone dates from 2007 and, since then, has suffered continuous delays.
The first stoppage was as a result of the bankruptcy of the Andobras company , to which the project was awarded, and which entered bankruptcy proceedings. The work was paralyzed when 90% was already executed, explain municipal sources. Subsequently, the San Jose construction company won the tender in 2015 to finish the rest of the work (10% of the initial project), but the increase in the initially planned budget required the modification of the contract, delaying it again and pending new negotiation.
“Since 2016, these new budgetary and administrative problems, together with the years of crisis, have made the project shipwreck again despite its advanced execution. In October 2017, the current government team managed to resume the works”, add the same sources.
The mayor of Coria del Rio, Modesto Gonzalez, has attended this noon to the inauguration of the new building. “At last we enjoy a new, modern, innovative, competitive health center and with the best technical and human health team”, commented the mayor, stressing that “this center will offer, from today, a medical and health service of quality as the Corianos deserve , who have had to endure twelve years of waiting and primary health care in obsolete shells”.
The opening of the new consultations will be progressive, so that once they are fully operational they will have a staffof about 40 professionals. “The assistance activity planned annually is 69,700 family consultations; 14,200 pediatrics; and about 42,000 nursing; To which are added the almost 9,000 planned home visits, ”explain sources from the Ministry of Health . The new regional health center is designed to serve a population of more than 18,000 users.
