Many of us know Charlie Chaplin as a great actor and comedian. But you see, Charlie Chaplin was much more than that. He was a writer, a director, a musician and a brilliant man. The thought of him was ahead of its time and thanks to his art, he was able to analyze the hardest aspects of his contemporaneity, without ever losing the irony and joy in doing so. After all, telling something tragic using laughter is extremely complicated. Yet, Charlie Chaplin has always done so, leaving us in inheritance 10 precious life lessons. A wise, unforgettable artist, to always remember, especially on the day of his birth (April 16, 1889). Charlie Chaplin’s 10 Life Lessons Lesson 1: Authenticity
“When I began to love myself, I found that anguish and emotional pain are just warning signs that I was living against my truth. Today I know that this is authentic ”.
Self-love is really important. Today many of us take failures in a negative way. But often there is no point in continuing to suffer until we fully know what we want to achieve. Sometimes we continue to want uselessly things that are actually “useless”. Sir Charlie Chaplin teaches us to maintain harmony between our thoughts and actions. Lesson 2: Maturity
“When I began to love myself I stopped longing for a different life, and I could see that everything around me invited me to grow. Today I call it maturity ”.
Maturity is extremely important. Because until one matures, one remains stuck in one’s own boundaries and leads an adverse life. Because when you stay within your comfort zone, we don’t even understand our desires anymore. The right way is to establish a connection between the conscious and subconscious minds through dialogue with oneself. We learned this in this 2020-2021. Dialogue with ourselves is the main step to start living a conscious life. Lesson 3: Respect
“When I began to love myself I realized how much it can offend someone if I try to impose my wishes on this person, even though I knew it was not the right time and the person was not ready for it, and even if this person was me. Today I call it respect “.
Sir Charlie Chaplin teaches us to respect each individual, without distinction. In short, what he wants to tell us is “treat the other person as you would treat yourself”. This teaching continues to be the most urgent one to learn today. Opening the social networks, the news, we do nothing but read about stories made up of discrimination, marginalization, racism, homophobia. We need respect. We need to learn equality. Lesson 4: Self-Confidence
“When I began to love myself I realized that under any circumstances, I am in the right place at the right time, and everything happens at exactly the right time. So I was able to be calm. Today I call it self-confidence “.
Self-confidence is the only key that puts you in touch with “your truth”. It does not allow you to make bad decisions or to be jealous of the success of others. Because believing in what you are and in your potential allows you to look at your goals with clarity. We are strong, we are resilient. This historical period still has many challenges to offer us, so this is a good time to gain confidence. Lesson 5:
Self-love “When I began to love myself, I got rid of everything that is not good for my health – food, people, things, situations and everything that brought me down and away from me same. At first I called this a healthy selfishness. Today I know that it is love for oneself ”.
Many of us are stuck between positive and negative “selfishness”. Negative selfishness is a state of mind that can create stagnation in life, which does not allow you to develop the right empathy with others or the right connect me. Healthy selfishness, on the other hand, is what protects us; and what allows us to choose. Because happiness, as Charlie Chaplin said, is a choice, something we can manage with our own strength. Lesson 6: Modesty
“When I began to love myself I stopped trying to always be right, and since then I have been wrong less often. Today I discovered that it is modesty ”.
Modesty is not always being good, but always being true and honest with yourself despite success. Understanding ourselves beyond what is right or wrong, good or bad. Self-analysis becomes the main ingredient for understanding each other. Lesson 7: Simplicity
“When I started loving myself I stopped stealing my time, and I stopped designing huge plans for the future. Today, I only do what brings me joy and happiness, things that I love to do and that make my heart rejoice, and I do them my way and at my own pace. Today I call it simplicity “.
The next important lesson after self-confidence and simplicity. You cannot be great if and until you are simple. Because often to be happy, you don’t need big gestures, the exaggerated ones. Small details are enough, short moments of pure joy.
In last 2020, when negativity flowed freely in our days, we learned to put together “little short moments of happiness”. It could be homemade pizza, a new workout, that TV series we were waiting to see, a book with many pages that we finally had time to read. Today more than ever, we have arrived at 2021, able to appreciate the little things. The simplicity that Chaplin teaches. Lesson 8: Wisdom of the heart
“When I began to love myself I recognized that my mind can disturb me and can make me sick. But when I connected it to my heart, my mind became a precious ally. Today I call this connection wisdom of the heart ”.
The human mind is like a universe: unlimited imagination, powerful creation, adaptability. So what makes us unhappy
When we try to limit ourselves, when we imprison it in the patterns of rationality, of perfectionism. The only way to clear the mind and follow the heart. A paradox
No. Lesson 9: Realization
“When I began to love myself, I refused to continue living in the past and worrying about the future. Now, I only live for the moment, where everything is happening. Today I live every day, day by day, and I call it fulfillment ”.
The past and the future cannot even be controlled by the CEO of a large corporation or a multi-billionaire. The only thing you can do is live in the present and grow every day by focusing on small things to paint a bigger picture. So, without worrying about the future or the anchor of the past, we need to focus on our “now”. This is true for us and for the society in which we live.
In the last year we have learned the unpredictability; and we are still learning to deal with it. Therefore it is the time to think “day by day”, just as Chaplin says. Lesson 10: This is life
“We no longer have to fear arguments, confrontations or any kind of problem with ourselves or with others. Even the stars collide, and from their crash new worlds are born. Today I know that this is life! ”.
Life is all about “moving forward”. One cannot stop, but must learn to sustain the blows and punches of life.
We come out of the shell of ignorance, indifference, selfishness, and learn to live with our heads held high.
