The letter is dated in the Herrera de la Mancha prison on August 2, 2020 and is addressed to the lawyer Inmaculada Torres Moreno, who represents the parents of Marta del Castillo. In the letter. Miguel Carcano, who is serving a sentence for the murder of Marta, claims the veracity of the seventh version of the crime, which he has kept intact since 2013 and in which he incriminates his brother Javier Delgado, to whom he attributes the death of the young woman from several blows with the butt of a pistol.
Carcano assures throughout the four pages of this handwritten letter that everything he said in that last version is “true” and recounts that in his previous statements he has been covering up for his brother.“Many years ago, the time of lying to cover up for my brother ended. I can only tell what I really know, of the rest only my brother has the answers” , says Miguel.
The letter has been incorporated into the investigation carried out by the Investigation Court number 4 of Seville on Carcano’s brother, which is pending the appeal presented before the Court after the judge’s decision to file said investigation.
Carcano offers his collaboration to “clarify” what happened on the day of the murder.
Carcano also expresses his desire to continue “collaborating” to clarify the events that occurred on January 24, 2009 at his home on Calle Leon XIII in Seville.“I am happy and hopeful that all this can serve to demonstrate what really happened that afternoon-night of January 24 and, what is even more important, being able to find Marta’s body,” says Carcano, who fully ratifies in the statement he gave in court on April 29, 2013 because, he continues, “it is the truth of what happened that night.”

The young man also has a message for “people who may still believe that this seventh version is one more” of those he has given to the past. throughout these twelve years that have passed.“Many years ago, the time of lying to cover up for my brother ended. I can only tell what I really know, of the rest only my brother has the answers”, Carcano asserts.
In this sense, Miguel maintains that the evidence presented in court by the accusation brought by Marta’s parents, in relation to the falsity of the documents presented to obtain a mortgage on Leon XIII’s apartment where the murder, “they come to confirm a little more the truth” of his statement. “I only wait for the day when it can be fully demonstrated that everything said is true,” writes Miguel Carcano.
The rest of the three pages of the letter are devoted to “briefly” reiterating what he already declared in court in 2013 when he appeared to testify as a witness to accuse his brother of Marta’s murder.
Thus, Carcano explains again that on the afternoon of January 24, 2009, he arrived at his home in Leon XIII around 8:30 p.m., accompanied by Marta. His brother Javier was in the apartment and the two started an argument about the mortgage. Marta, meanwhile, was in her room. Miguel says that he and his brother were in the hallway, in front of his room, and at that moment Marta came out “to mediate” between the two brothers.
Miguel relates that Cuco came home and could see Marta on the floor, already deceased
“My brother turns around and hits her in the head with the butt of a gun.It falls to the floor, inside my room, and I stay in the hallway, and meanwhile my brother goes to the living room and there I make a call, I do not know who and the content of it, “he narrates in the letter.
Carcano says that when Javier Garcia Marin, el Cuco, arrived, he saw Marta’s body on the floor and when he saw that his brother was approaching from the living room, the then minor “ran and left the house.”
Then Miguel reiterates that they used the wheelchair to remove the body from the flat and put it in the car of his sister-in-law Rosa, Javier’s ex-wife, to take him to the area of the Majaloba farm, in Rinconada, where he has also been found. exhaustively searched for Marta without success.
He also provides more details about how they removed the body: Carcano says that his brother “peaked on the street phone and whistled”so that he would go to the door carrying Marta in the wheelchair and take her to the car, which was on the corner of the street. And at this point, he insists that it was when he was returning to leave the wheelchair that he ran into a neighbor of the block whose testimony has been crucial throughout the investigation to establish the time in which Marta’s body was allegedly removed. from the floor.
In this seventh version Miguel says that they took the body in Rosa’s car, and that he was behind on the motorcycle. When he went to pick up the motorcycle, he ran into a classmate who lived in the neighborhood, one they called “Pajaro”.
In any case, Carcano indicates that he cannot specify “neither before nor now”, the times or the distances. “The only thing I know is the time of arrival at my home of Leon XIII, with Marta, around 8:30 p.m., and my arrival in Camas around 11:00 p.m. “, referring to the home of his then girlfriend, Rocio .
The one who was at the time a confessed murderer of Marta explains in the letter that he cannot indicate the distance between the road and the “ditch” where they deposited the body , and what he does reiterate is that the next day, on January 25 , he and his brother drove back to the area where they left the body. “Since then, I know nothing more about his whereabouts”, insists Carcano, who ends his letter assuring that this version is the same as the one he told in 2013 before the Police and the investigating judge. “There is nothing different from what was already declared in 2013,” he says.
Willing to collaborate to clarify “the truth”
The last words he writes to Marta’s parents’ lawyer are to reiterate that he is “willing to collaborate in everything that is” in his hands to “clarify the truth of what happened”, concludes the young man, who also reiterates his collaboration, even authorizing “the review” of the mobile phone that was withheld from him in the Seville-II prison, in Moron de la Frontera, when he was in provisional prison awaiting trial.
The investigation as a result of the false documents presented for the granting of the mortgage is provisionally archived by the court, although the family has appealed the archive before the Court of Seville requesting that it allow the Police to continue investigating.
Investigating Judge number 4, Alvaro Martin, decided to file the file with the favorable report from the Seville Prosecutor’s Office, which in a report considers that the new investigation “does not provide any relevant evidence or objective corroboration of Carcano’s new statement”, whose Credibility, for the Public Ministry, is “null”, especially when “it is evident that the true objective pursued is to exonerate himself as a confessed author and firmly convicted of Marta’s murder.”The prosecutor considers that Carcano’s “hidden intention” is to provoke a “hypothetical appeal for review of the final sentence” in which he was convicted.
Faced with the position of the prosecutor, Marta’s family trusts that the Court will reopen the investigation .
