With more than 880K followers on Instagram , Carla Barber is currently one of the most influential women in the field of cosmetic surgery in Spain. In addition to being a doctor, this 31-year-old woman is a model who opted for the title of Miss World 2011 and won the Miss Las Palmas 2010 and Miss Spain 2015 pageants .
Recently, Carla Barber, originally from the Canary Islands, has published a video on her official Instagram page in which she narrated how she has been diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome , a heart rhythm disorderwhich is rare but, at the same time, life-threatening. The studies carried out to date on this disease suggest that it is sometimes inherited.
“Just a month ago they gave me the news that I had a heart disease,” the model begins to explain on her Instagram profile. This heart disease, as stated, can lead to sudden death. “It is a disease that has no treatment,” he laments.
Given the facts, the model wanted to thank the attention of the doctors who have treated her: “I want to thank the cardiologist Paco Torres , who has done these tests to detect this disease, and Dr. Pedro Brugada, with whom I was reunited once I was diagnosed with the disease”.
“It has been hard. It’s a shock to be told that suddenly you have a three percent chance a year of dying suddenly in the next ten years,” said Carla Barber, who is too young to receive such news.

What is the Brugada syndrome

As previously mentioned, it is a heart disorder that occurs in people who suffer from it and are at increased risk of having irregular heart rhythms that begin in the lower chambers of the heart (ventricles).
As the specialist in aesthetic medicine advanced, there is no treatment as such to eliminate the disease, since Brugada syndrome treatments include preventive measures such as avoiding the aggravation of medications and reducing fever. When needed, treatment may also include a medical device called an implantable cardioverter defibrillator .
Many people with Brugada syndrome do not know they have the condition because it very often does not cause any noticeable symptoms. Some of its signs may be dizziness, fainting , wheezing, or labored breathing (particularly at night) .irregular heartbeat or palpitations, extremely fast and chaotic heartbeat, or seizures .
However, the most important sign of Brugada syndrome is an abnormal result on an electrocardiogram (ECG) , a test that measures the electrical activity of the heart.
