New Year’s Eve is the perfect opportunity to take a break and release all the stress of the past year. If you are with your family and are looking for perfect cities, places and events to have fun with them, here are the best solutions to experience a perfect New Year as a family , with some ideas specially designed for those traveling with children.

Travel advice post COVID19
If you are planning a trip, make sure you are in line with safety measures. Follow government guidelines and only return to travel when the green light is given. Prefer natural and perhaps non-mass destinations, and in general promote local tourism: discover the wonders of your city, your region and your state. Try to avoid long-haul travel and at most choose destinations that can be reached with a few hours of flight.

New Year’s Eve in an amusement park

1 – Disneyland Paris
Let’s start from a place that certainly does not need big introductions … A great classic that makes everyone’s heart beat faster, from the youngest to the oldest: Disneyland Paris is a place where dreams seem to come true and where it is natural to return children at least for a few hours.
The park in particular has two distinct areas, Disneyland Park (quieter and suitable for children), and Walt Disney Studios Park (instead dedicated to cinema and special effects), to satisfy everyone’s tastes.

New Year’s Eve is a crazy event : parades, light shows, incredible shows, all in the company of your favorite Disney characters.

At the stroke of midnight, make sure you are in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle, and there that the sky is covered with lights and colors!

The regular ticket is not enough : watch out, because the regular entrance ticket gives access to the park only until 18:00. To participate in the New Year’s event you need a dedicated ticket costing about € 109.00, which guarantees access from 17:00 to 2:00. In any case, you can always spend the day there until 18:00 and then move elsewhere in the evening. In this case, you can opt for the entrance ticket to Disneyland + transfer to and from Paris.

  • Where to sleep: it is clear that the ideal would be to choose one of the hotels inside the park, but the costs for New Year’s Eve are around € 1,000 per night. We advise you to compare the best solutions on Booking
  • Low Cost Flights: Flights to Paris are often cheap, but for those dates, if you don’t book at least a couple of months in advance, costs skyrocket! Compare flights on Expedia
  • Flight + hotel : even here if you book at least two months in advance, you can also find packages with € 500 for a family of 3 for 2 nights / 3 days. Otherwise the costs skyrocket – compare the best flight + hotel packages

2 – Gardaland
Not far from Lake Garda, Gardaland is perhaps the most famous amusement park in Italy . With over 3 million visitors a year, it is a park with a mixture of adrenaline-pumping attractions (such as the Blue Tornado and the Magic Mountains), but also entertainment designed for the little ones, including the Prezzemolo Tour and the mini -village of the West, and the most romantic ones (very popular in this regard the carousel of horses and the unmissable Ferris wheel).
The park will be open on both December 31st and January 1st but it will close at 6:30 pm (so you will not be able to celebrate the stroke of midnight inside).

Gardaland Magic Winter : the Magic Winter ticket allows 1 entry to Gardaland Park and 1 entry to Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium on the same day or on two consecutive days. The full price is € 45.00, the reduced one € 39.00. There are also packages with overnight stays in the hotels of the park starting from around € 300 per night for 2 adults and 1 child. For normal park entrances, opt for the priority entry ticket.

  • Low cost flights: land in Verona, it is only 33km away, or alternatively in Bologna or Milan. Better book at least 2 months in advance to find good deals – compare flights
  • Where to sleep: the solutions inside the park are certainly suggestive but on average more expensive. If you intend to stay only one night, it is an effort that can be made, otherwise opt for the hotels near Gardaland suggested by booking

3 – Cinecitta World
An alternative for both children and families and the New Year’s Eve at Cinecitta World , the cinema-themed amusement park for all ages, but with attractions of all kinds! It starts at 18:00 for non-stop entertainment until 8:00 the next morning, with more than 30 attractions but also concerts , indoor and outdoor discos, fireworks, artists and even the possibility of choose between different dinner formulas!

A very rich program: the park opens from 6 to 6 in the morning, includes 6 different themed dinners (Charleston, Rome, Saloon), 4 discos, live shows and above all the New Year’s Eve option for Families with a children’s party in the snow! The entrance to the park alone costs € 40.00, the Park + dinner packages start from € 60.00 up to approximately € 140.00 per person. If, on the other hand, you plan to go to the park close to New Year’s Eve, you can buy the regular entrance ticket.

  • Where to sleep: The hotels affiliated with the park are many, even with affordable prices. However, we recommend that you take a look at the selection of accommodations near Cinecitta World on Booking

4 – Leolandia
Photo of Sys76. Born as Minitalia at the beginning of the 70s, the Leolandia amusement park (so called only for a few years) is the first theme park dedicated in particular to families. Equipped with more than 40 attractions , several dining options, as well as an aquarium, a reptile house and an educational farm, Leolandia is loved above all for the many references to cartoons (recently, the characters of Peppa Pig have also joined the group). The historic installations of Minitalia are still present today.
The park will be open on both December 31st and January 1st from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm (so you will not be able to celebrate the stroke of midnight inside).

The program of the New Enchanted Christmas: from 13 November to 9 January 2022 Leolandia will be colored with a Christmas theme, with shows and programs perfect for children! There will be the Museum in the PJ Masks City, the light show in front of the Christmas tree, the opportunity to meet Santa Claus and give him the letter, many open rides and the most loved characters such as Bing, Ladybug and Masha and the Bear. The entrance ticket starts at around € 22.50, reductions up to 119cm, free up to 89cm.

  • Low cost flights: the ideal is to land directly in Bergamo (19 km), alternatively Milan is fine – compare flights
  • Where to sleep: The park + hotel options are quite advantageous, with around € 200.00 you can get 2 nights for 2 adults + 1 child with entrance to the park included. Alternatively, compare the best accommodations on Booking

If you are traveling with your family, there are several (very simple) walks to take around the town, moreover often the farmhouses and tourist facilities in the area have their own enclosure with goats and other farm animals to entertain your children.

5 – Etna, Sicily
On the eastern coast of Sicily, one of the most beautiful areas to visit (regardless of whether you are under the festivities or not) is the one located near one of the island’s symbols par excellence, Etna . The area near the volcano is full of breathtaking natural views , ranging from dense woods to cultivated fields, and it is very easy to find farmhouses a few kilometers away where you can enjoy the silence and the wild nature of the place. If you want to participate in an excursion to the slopes of the volcano, however, we recommend that you inform yourself a little in advance (especially to understand which type of excursion is also suitable for children).
Among those we recommend, you cannot miss the morning or sunset excursion on Etna with tasting, which includes the round trip transfer and allows you to visit surreal places such as lava caves and extinct craters. Grindelwald is a Swiss municipality in the canton of Bern with just over 4,000 inhabitants. Compared to other neighboring towns, it has not yet become a victim of mass tourism, which makes it an ideal destination for those traveling with the whole family in tow.

Interlaken is more touristic, but it has a lot of activities to offer !

Discover the fantastic winter activities: Do not miss a funicular ride to Harder Kulm, to enjoy a unique view from the Bridge of the 2 Lakes and the peaks of Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau; and again, you can put your feet in a world made of ice and snow at Jungfraujoch, the roof of Europe, with a fantastic train tour, up to the Ice Palace! Oman is a state located in the southeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula. Thanks to the very hot climate at any time of the year and the amount of attractions present (many of them natural), it is one of the most recommended destinations for a warm New Year , without necessarily going too far (we are talking about just over 6 flight hours).
Among the things to see absolutely, we point out the Al Alam Palace (ceremonial palace of the sultan, located in Muscat), the Sultan Grand Mosque (also in the capital, Muscat), the Bahla Fort (one of the four historical fortresses in Oman) . From a naturalistic point of view, the town is characterized by onehuge landscape variety boasting desert areas, dreamy oases in the middle of nowhere, rocky mountains and green plains.

5 – Madagascar, Africa
Fourth largest island in the world, Madagascar is a corner of paradise washed by the waters of the Indian Ocean and inhabited by some of the funniest and sweetest creatures on the face of the Earth: lemurs. In addition to these, however, the local fauna and flora are very varied (there are even more than 250 species of frogs!), So much so that 80% of the species present here are not found anywhere else in the world. In this sense, an excursion in the vicinity of Morondava is truly unmissable, where the giant Baobabs grow , perhaps one of the most widespread symbols of the country.
December is one of the hottest months, it is true, but this is also due to the fact that the rainy season begins in this month. Don’t be surprised, then, if you catch some thunderstorms! In this period, therefore, prefer the south-west coast (in the Toliara area), and instead avoid the east coast (the one overlooking the Indian Ocean): in this area it rains practically every day!
However, a trip to Madagascar is not only an experience of adventure and discovery but also of relaxation: among the favorite seaside destinations for tourists, Nosy Be ranks first for its beaches of fine white sand , the crystal clear sea and mangrove forests, still (fortunately) exterminated.
Although the New Year on the island is celebrated mainly in the streets, with traditional songs and dances, the most heartfelt holiday here is the Alahamadi Be, or the Lunar New Year which usually takes place in March and during which the rice harvest is celebrated. , decorating streets and houses for festivities.

In any case, the opportunity is perfect to visit Naples and its surroundings: do not miss an excursion to the Amalfi Coast, super suggestive at this time of year, or the tour to the Ruins of Pompeii and Vesuvius, with the snow covering the top of the volcano with a white blanket.
