At the beginning of the twentieth century the writer Lucy Maud Montgomery gave life to the character of Anna of the red hair, a young orphan, courageous and a lover of books, entrusted by mistake to two elderly brothers Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. Although the Canadian writer had conceived it as a book suitable for everyone, in a short time the novel became a classic of children’s literature. From the fifties to today there have also been several television adaptations of the story of Anne Shirley, among which the anime Anna with red hair directed by Isao Takahata acquired a lot of popularity at the turn of the seventies and eighties of the last century. Montgomery found the inspiration for the novel in a note he had written years earlier. In the note he described the story of a couple who had been mistakenly entrusted with an orphan girl rather than a boy, but who had decided to keep her anyway. Montgomery also included his childhood experiences in the rural area of Prince Edward Island in the story.
