The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Principality of Asturias requests a year in prison for a person accused of continuously mistreating his dog, which he kicked to the vet to force her to walk. The indictment of the Public Prosecutor has been presented in the Investigating Court number 2 of Oviedo.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office maintains that, around 12:00 noon on April 28, 2021, the defendant dragged an elderly and medium-sized female dog to the Mundo Vivo Veterinary Clinic, on C/ Fray Ceferino 47 of Oviedo, kicking her to force her to walk, despite the fact that she could hardly stand up.
The animal presented intense diarrhoea, abundant vaginal bleeding due to advanced infection of the uterus, bleeding from the nose and mouth as a result of dragging, legs with a possible fracture or old dislocation, totally twisted feet, a destroyed mouth and a general state of anxiety and tachycardia.
The X-rays showed great bone deterioration, ligament rupture, meniscus involvement, hip wear and osteoarthritis, observing, once anesthetized, a fissure in the vulva of considerable size and abundant bleeding and a large uterus, completely inflamed and full of pus, so it was removed along with the ovaries.
The dog had mammary tumors that would need to be removed although, due to her condition and age, the vet decided to wait until a later time.
The defendant had the dog at his home in Oviedo, without giving her the care and veterinary attention she needed, until she reached the extreme situation in which she was treated at the clinic.
In addition, in the same house he also had a male dog, which when he was taken by the Local Police to the veterinary clinic, presented a state of considerable anxiety, obesity and limitations in the mobility of the iris, due to the lack of attention and adequate nutrition.
The dog’s treatment costs amounted to 895 euros. The two animals currently remain in the Mundo Vivo facilities.
The Prosecutor’s Office considers that the facts constitute a continued crime of domestic or tamed animal abuse and requests that the defendant be sentenced to 1 year in prison and special disqualification from exercising a profession, trade or trade that has to do with animals. , as well as for the possession of animals, for 3 years.
As civil liability, it will indemnify the Mundo Vivo veterinary clinic with 895 euros, the amount of the treatment provided, as well as the amount for the expenses that are accredited in the execution of the sentence of maintenance and care of the animals for a period of two years or until, in their case, they were adopted.
