The Cat S62 Pro belongs to the segment of rugged phones, phones designed for much more intensive (and even extreme) use than what an average consumer could give it. They withstand falls , dirt, immersion in water and even cleaning with abrasive products such as hydroalcoholic gel, among other products (also bleach, according to a brand spokesperson).
Although we have not dared to throw it on the ground or put it under the tap or hit it with bleach, all you have to do is take it to check that it is an off-road mobile that, to further influence that professional patina, comes with an integrated thermal camera, with FLIR Lepton 3.5 sensorand an application dedicated to this functionality, MyFLIR Pro. A feature that will be best used by professionals but can also be useful in a home or creative environment.
Very resistant
As we mentioned above, the Cat S62 Pro is a very tough device, so much so that it exceeds, according to the data sheet, the IP68 and IP69 certification and the US military standard , Mil Spec 810H. In its intense and extensive testing period, the phone has withstood repeated drops from 1.8 meters onto steel, with multiple landings on the sides and corners, waterproof tests (it can be submerged up to 1.5 meters for 35 minutes), dirt and dust, extreme temperatures…
The thermal camera
The device offersFLIR Systems’ VividIR image processing , MSX (Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging) and Visible-to-thermal blending technologies built into the smartphone. Users will be able to change the intensity of the MSX, which overlays the scene’s visual outline detail onto the thermal image, or use the new Optimal Blend functionality to blend the thermal detail with the visual image from Sony’s dual pixel camera. Combined, these features improve image quality, with greater sharpness and resolution, to make the thermal image displayed by the camera more useful (and understandable to anyone on screen).
The software incorporates features previously reserved for more expensive products, such as isothermal alarm, minimum and maximum temperature indicators and generation of reports built into the MyFLIR Pro application .
With the isothermal alarm you can monitor a custom temperature range (between -20ºC and +400ºC) and add alarms to notify the user when something appears within that range (useful if you want machinery to reach a specific temperature, a temperature is detected). unusually high temperature and even to know if the fire on which we cook has reached the right temperature).
Thermal camera measures heat and surface temperatures from a distance of up to 50 meters, displays scalable, movable POIs with ‘hottest’ and ‘coldest’ indicators and has a 57-degree horizontal field of view, plus nine thermal color palettes to choose from depending on the situation.
Other characteristics
There are with respect to its predecessor improvements in several aspects. The display is 5.7-inch FHD+ (18:9 aspect ratio), optimized for outdoor use with a touch screen that can be used with wet fingers or gloves. Its rubber back cover is non-slip. Much.
As far as traditional cameras are concerned , it has a 12-megapixel Sony rear main lens (with dual-pixel technology) and an 8-megapixel front lens.
As a curious addition, it incorporates a programmable key that we can use for functions such as Push to Talk (PTT), SOS (if it is a professional working alone), or to easily turn on the flashlight or camera.
In the performance section, it has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage (expandable with micro SD), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset (2.0 GHz) and an optimized 4,000 mAh battery .It supports Android Enterprise capabilities, including Zero-touch, and has gone through a series of regulatory provisioning and registration tests with leading EMM solutions.
