An accident at the attraction El Desafio de Isla Magica ended last Sunday with three injuries with injuries to the neck and arms as a result of the computer failure that this mechanism suffered, which caused a sudden stop that forced them to stay almost a quarter of an hour to 11 meters high. The injured have already filed a complaint with the Local Police after the company refused to give them the insurance policy. The management of Isla Magica, which regrets what happened, points out that the incident demonstrated the proper functioning of the park’s security system.
The events occurred last Sunday, when at 4:30 p.m. Rocio Valiente, Natalia Orellana and Tamara Carranza went up with their boyfriends to El Desafio, an attraction consisting of a circular platform where its occupants sit and which is raised by mechanical traction to almost 70 meters high. Once there it is thrown into the void. According to Rocio Valiente, “the first fall worked well, the problem occurred the second time it descended, when we suffered a sudden stop that caused injuries to our necks and tendons.”
The platform was almost a quarter of an hour stopped at 11 meters high. Once the occupants descended, they were treated by the Isla Magica medical service. In the case of these three young women, the doctors transferred them to the Virgen Macarena Hospital, where they were diagnosed with a cervical sprain and muscle contracture, for which a collar was placed on each one. Natalia Orellana’s arm was also bandaged due to the injuries she suffered as a result of the sudden braking.
According to Valiente, in the same hospital they told him to return to Isla Magica to demand the insurance part. Once in the theme park, one of the employees refused to give them the policy number. “He only told us that when we wanted to go to Isla Magica we would have free admission,” says Valiente. The three girls decided on Tuesday to file a complaint with the Local Police for the damage caused, which in Natalia’s case has caused her sick leave and in Rocio’s case she stopped going to an Inem course.
The company clarified that the emergency brake was activated after one of the sensors detected an anomaly. According to sources from the Isla Magica management, the failure was not mechanical, but computerized, which is why said program has been deactivated since Sunday. Regarding the refusal to deliver the insurance policy to the injured, the company emphasizes that there is a protocol of action in the event of an accident by which the injured are transferred to the Virgen Macarena, a center that is responsible for billing the expenses through of civil liability insurance with which Isla Magica covers services that do not exceed 6,000 euros. In the event that the damage requires a surgical intervention that exceeds this amount, private insurance is used. According to the direction of Isla Magica, the young women demanded this policy,
