Russian President Vladimir Putin has made many aspects of his private life a focus of media attention. We saw him playing with his dogs in Moscow, riding bare-chested in Siberia, playing hockey, drinking with friends, working out in the gym. But little is really known about the family and loved ones of the Kremlin leader who is shaking the world.
In more than 20 years in power, there are very few photos, videos or information of the intimate entourage of the Russian president. Already in 2012 the newspaper The New York Times underlined “the secrecy, almost impenetrable”, of Putin: “The more he governs Russia, the discussion about his family seems to be more taboo”. The Russian press argued at the time that it was easier to talk about national security issues in Russia than to talk about the president’s family.
In 2012, when I agree to collaborate on the documentary by German director Hubert Seipel Ich , Putin explained that the silence on his private life is due to the need to protect the safety of his children.
In these hours of global tension, with the epicenter in Russia and Ukraine, the international media have however dedicated themselves to covering the information concerning Putin’s alleged young companion, Alina Kabaeva . According to Page Six, an insert from the New York Post, the woman, born in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, and hidden in Switzerland with her four children, had by the Russian president.
Former gymnast (Olympic gold medal in Athens 2004 and bronze medal in Sydney in 2000), Kabaeva together with six other athletes carried the torch in the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014. She retired in 2007 at the age of 24. From that year until 2014, she was a member of parliament for the ruling United Russia party and according to The Guardian newspaper, she was appointed to head one of the main media close to the Kremlin.
Before Alina, the woman in Putin’s heart – this confirmed herself – was his wife Ludmila Shkrebneva . The two married in 1983 and officially divorced in 2014. They had two daughters, Maria and Katerina.
“It was a joint decision: we hardly see each other, everyone has their own life,” Putin said on TV. A few times Ludmila spoke of her relationship with the Russian leader. She said on one occasion that she had difficulty traveling by plane and that Putin was completely overwhelmed with work.
Putin’s ex-wife, a former flight attendant and German teacher, would be in Switzerland, where she has a house in one of the most luxurious areas of Davos, worth 3.5 million francs. In Biarritz, on the other hand, you have a villa worth 7.5 million euros, which has recently been smeared with anti-war and anti-Putin writings.
And then there are also Putin’s (recognized) daughters. Maria, born in 1985 in Leningrad, is an endocrinologist and has two children. Putin’s grandchildren were born in 2002 and 2017. She is said to be married to Dutch entrepreneur Jorrit Faassen and that she lives in Moscow under a false name. Katerina , on the other hand, was born in Germany in 1986. She was a dancer of acrobatic dances, she is an artificial intelligence researcher after a doctorate at the University of Moscow, according to an investigation by the Reuters agency. In August 2015, as the BBC recalls, Putin allowed the recording of a dance session of his daughter with the presence of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
Also according to Reuters, Katerina now uses the surname Tikhonova. For the Daily Mail newspaper, Putin’s daughter was married to the billionaire for five yearsKirill Shamalov . At the start of the pandemic, it was said that one of Putin’s daughters volunteered to test the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, but it was never known which one.
“I haven’t talked about where my daughters work, what they do and I have no intention of doing it now,” Putin said years ago. I don’t do this for many reasons, including security. In general, I believe that each person has the right to their own destiny. They have never been the daughters of a celebrity, they don’t like being the center of attention and they just live their own lives ”.
Some rumors in the international press say that Putin has six other daughters from three different relationships. Among these children there would also be the eighteen year old Luiza Rodova, Putin’s daughter with a St. Petersburg employee, Svetlana Krivonogikh , who now lives in Munich as a billionaire.
