It doesn’t seem like big news anymore when scientists show fruits and vegetables are healthy.
Despite stacks of research suggesting a plant-rich diet for overall well-being and weight loss, fewer than one in five adults eat enough fruits and vegetables.
In a study published today in The BMJ, researchers showed that a small group of compounds, namely flavonoids, could be the promoter of weight loss.
The researchers looked at subjects up to age 24, collecting data from 124,000 people in the United States. Subjects aged 27 to 65 reported their weight every two years and their diet every four years between 1986 and 2011.
The results revealed a relationship between diets high in flavonoids and less weight gain. The foods that had the greatest impact were so-called anthocyanins, found in dark red foods such as blueberries, cherries, grapes and strawberries, and flavonoid polymers, found in tea and apples.
Here’s what they are and how to integrate them into your diet, also making draining drinks. How to lose weight with plants

As previously mentioned, the researchers showed that certain foods, including blueberries, apples, pears, plums, strawberries, grapes, peppers, and celery, were linked to less weight gain. Fiber did not explain the association, so they focused on flavonoids, natural compounds found in fruits and vegetables that appear to have a protective effect on their host plants.
Past animal studies have suggested that the flavonoids in whole foods may decrease fat absorption and may increase calorie expenditure.
Each extra daily standard deviation of flavonoids was associated with a small weight loss.
Although modest, studies have confirmed that a fruit can provide more than one standard deviation of a class of flavonoids. For example, just half a cup of blueberries can offer about 12 standard deviations of anthocyanins; half a cup of blackberries about seven. In other words, you don’t need to eat large amounts to get the benefits. Fat Burning Plants: 10 Plants to Eliminate Fat Rosemary
